I have had a Canon Pixma Pro-100 for about two years, and it is an excellent printer. The CLI-42 ink cartridges that are used by the Pro-100 are not inexpensive, but they have always worked well. I recommend the CLI-42 ink and the Pro-100 printer.

I know some who have dabbled in non-OEM inks for the Pro-100 and, as described and shown to me, the results are, at best, equivalent to Canon’s OEM product but never superior. Unfortunately, non-OEM output is also inconsistent (beware yellow!). In other words, the premium price for OEM ink buys me consistent output. Your milage may vary but I find the extra cost well-worth that peace of mind. And like always, B&H provided fantastic customer service and excellent delivery options (in my case, living in NYC, free delivery the next business day).

Canon has demonstrated that there dye based inks are, indeed, archival. There co operation with Canson, Hanemuhla, Red river, Moab and Museo paper manufactures ensure factory, downloadable paper profiles.
