The CLI-42 Light Gray Ink Cartridge from Canon is a specially formulated ChromaLife100+ ink. The ink produces professional quality & long-lasting photo prints, ideal for displaying printed works of art. Canon’s proprietary FINE (Full Photolithographic Inkjet Nozzle Engineering) technology provides sharpness and detail. The individual ink system helps increase efficiency since you’ll only be replacing the color that runs out.

It’s nice to know the original ink is still available. I’ve tried cheaper from elsewhere but they dry out early and cause other problems. Stick with the best.

I try to stick with the ink that is made by the manufacturer so I get a more accurate output with consistent looking colors. This ink has never disappointed me so far and it isn’t any cheaper or more costly that any other inks of this type from other companies. They have good capacity and they last for many prints from 4×6 to 13×19. The bigger the paper the more ink you use but that’s true of all companies.

This combination plus my Canon 5d4 makes beautiful 13×19 images. My bird and portrait shots show incredibly sharp details even when cropped and the black, grey and light grey cartridges create a black and white image with high dynamic range

This ink with the canon Pixma PRO-100 printer are a winner for me. The quality and color fidelity and rendition are awesome on a few paper types i tried. Despite reading that the first set of cartridges would deplete fast (because the printer fills the pipes when put in service) I have not seen that, but I print moderately in terms of volume. I find this is pro level ink & printing as I find the results beautiful and worth framing & hanging (granted I need to have done more part before to make a nice image ;-). The ink is also easy to change and has LEDs and clear references to help. I never had a spill.

Had an Epson Surecolor P600 printer. It was awful….clogs all of the time, ink blots, and eventual failure of the printhead that cost more than the printer to fix. Bought the Canon Pixma Pro-100 last year from B and H. Totally reliable, great colors, works perfectly, no long color tubes to fail, great feed system on 13 x 19 paper. A true pleasure to use.
