Don’t use imitations, they are not as good as Canon inks. In my opinion!
Pauline Goyette (verified owner) –
The Canon dye inks are very good quality, and not as crazy expensive as the Epson pigment inks.

I purchased the ink tank pack after reading reviews on third party ink on various forums and reviews. Having only used the original tanks that came with my canon Pixma pro 100 and loving the vibrant colors it produced I decided to stick with the manufacturer brand.

The Pixma Pro-100 and its ChromaLife100 ink (CLI-42) produce great looking images. I use almost exclusively Canson Infinity fine art papers (mat finish). The detail and color depth and quality are excellent. There are however two draw backs. 1) ink cost. It is definitely not the cheapest printer to operate. These are small cartridges and if you are printing full sized 19×13 prints in any significant volume, you will need to plan on keeping spares on hand. 2) It is a dye-based ink versus the pigment-based ink of its higher end cousins. Dye inks are not truly archival grade inks, like the pigment inks of the Pro-1, Pro-10, and Pro-1000.

I tried off brand ink for my Canon Pro 100 and the results were poor. I went back to Canon ink to improve printing quality.

I use this (along with the associated gray inks) in a Canon Pixma Pro-100 printer to make display-grade B&W prints. Excellent quality on glossy or lustre surfaces.

Of all the color printers I have used throughout the years, the Canon Pixma Pro 100 with this product provides extremely colorful prints.

Ink is expensive but the value of the representation of your work product is priceless. The PIXMA PRO-100 Printer is the best professional printer I’ve ever owned and use it for all my print work. The interface shows you each individual color cartridge levels as well as warning which particular one is running low. You can replace that specific color which gives you heads-up of which one to buy instead of buying a full set, a cost discretion directive. I don’t print high volume, so I can’t attest to the cartridge mileage but I havent had any complaints and it’s an expected expense for any printer. I never looked into refilling nor aftermarket, if available at all, let alone tamper with the functionality of my printer. Each cartridge is very well packed (a bit much to dispose of) and ready to easily install into its specific slot. Have not seen any bleeding (I think print quality is sharp, near perfect) nor any fading of prints in normal room display conditions. Ink dries very quickly (I leave fresh prints undisturbed dust-free) over a day just to be safe before handling or mounting. I appreciate B+H almost always have all colors in stock with quick shipping or pick-up in emergency. It prints normal text document excellent even in quick draft mode (I think to save ink on non-critical printing and still prints great). As well as a precaution, I dont mind using it for occasional text documents just to keep nozzles clear of dried ink but it doesn’t seem necessary for I haven’t experienced any errors from non-use. This is the ink made for your printer, it produces great results. You get what you pay for. It’s more cost effective to do something right the first time. *(This is no directive, I’ve evaluated for what worked from my experience, your needs and results may differ. Engage at your own risk.)

I’ve tried after market brands and nothing compares to original Canon ink. Without a doubt, Canon makes the best product.

Printed colors come out looking great, transitions are smooth. Ink channels do not clog, despite not being used for 3-4 weeks. Cartridge content volume is small, even compared to the cartridge size. Cartridges are being replaced regularly and pile up like ants. The ink cost quickly surpasses the cost of the printer. Highly recommended for people who do not make a lot of prints.
