The Canon PIXMA iP8720 Wireless Inkjet Photo Printer allows you to create high resolution 9600 x 2400 dpi full color prints. It can even print borderless up to 13 x 19″ and produce a 4 x 6″ full color photograph in about 36 seconds. Additionally, with 802.11 b/g/n Wi-Fi connectivity, many more wireless printing options are available.
For paper handling the iP8720 utilizes a 150-sheet automatic feeder. This enables it to print 14.5 black ipm and 10.4 color ipm without worry of refilling the printer. Also, this printer has a 6-color ink configuration, including gray, that enables excellent tonalities and color reproduction for your images.
You can print directly onto CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs with the use of the disc tray. Other features include automatic power on and off for power management when the printer is not in use as well as compatibility with the PIXMA Printing Solutions smartphone application.

We needed a printer that would do large format (at least 12 x17) and good speed since it would be used for documents and scrapbooks as well as photos. We looked at several other printers, but this is the only one that fit the requirements. Although the footprint is a fair size, this printer is still smaller than others we considered. As for speed, we printed a 10 page test document containing a lot of text and a few small color photos in 50 seconds, quite acceptable for our use. The Canon printer driver installed quick and easy on a 64 bit Windows 10 machine. We used the basic driver from the Canon website rather than the full one. The basic driver has most functions needed, ink monitor, alignment, cleaning, etc. The printer does printable CD/DVDs, another nice feature. However to print on them you need to install the Canon My Image Garden program that comes with the printer. This program is way more complicated than needed for the simple CD printing we wanted, so I found a link to a very old Canon program called CD-LabelPrint 1.4. This is easy to use and works just fine with the iP8720. That program has some limited capability such as the inserted photos can’t be over a certain size (I think 5MP or maybe 5MB), but easy enough to resize any photos for the occasional times they might be needed. Overall we are very pleased with this printer and like it much better than another well known-brand that it replaced.

I love this printer. Very pretty pictures coming out. Very happy I purchased this. B&H is wonderful, helped me set it up.

I was concerned about the wireless setup after reading some reviews. Once I began the process, the system completed the connection. This was on a PC. During the connection, the system also searched out and included our MacBook Pro. Haven’t printed any photos yet, but docs and spreadsheets come out great.

Very simple to install, output is great, I read where some say it is loud. I do not find this to be true. The only think I can say I dislike about it. It is large and bulky. But I knew that going in.

I wanted a printer I could use for oversize prints–12 x 18 or 13 x 19, with excellent quality. This fits the bill perfectly. I have already framed several 11 x 14 prints, and will give them as holiday gifts. Photo quality is excellent, and my cost per print is reasonable.

The 11×14 format is not printed in full page

While doing a ton of research I settled on this printer to provide me with proofs of work I had planned to send for prints as many times it is very difficult to gauge what we see on the screen with what is received from a printer. After printing a couple images I was so blown away by the quality, on professional papers, that I am reconsidering sending away for prints. The cold and blending on this printer is excellent. The B&W could be better but then I did not buy it for that purpose. Dye inks won’t compare to pigment on the B&W spectrum. I really considered going with the P200 as it would be the best dye based printer out there, I simply don’t print enough to get the benefit from Pigment printers. After having used this printer though I am not as motivated to upgrade to the P200, this is a more than capable quality photo printer. I doubt anything but a side by side comparison would convince me otherwise but them for proof’s, this is perfection. The P200 is still new, double the price and double the cost on inks, if you can find any. I have no regrets with purchasing the 8720. PS: I did not experience any banding as was reported by another. That is the only thing that made me hesitate on this purchase. The quality is so good I am tempted to compare vs. ordered professional prints and update with the results.

Haven’t used it a lot as yet, but so far what I have discovered is that it sometimes takes a while to process some of the commands. But when it does, printing is pretty fast. The CD calibration took me quite a while to get it correct, because the manual doesn’t give you the direct numbers for centering a cd disk print; you have to shift and shift and print many examples before noting the centered number for yourself. colours look fairly balanced, but I have not yet measure duration of the ink wells etc.Overal though it seems like a fairy good midrange printer.

I’ve been using Canon photo printers paired with Mac computers for a long time. This time it’s the Mac Book Pro. If Canon was up to date with Apple-64bit- I would have given the 8720 five stars. However, you should know that I don’t use wireless, so have no opinion there.

Only had this printer for about a week and have printed a few photos in 8X10. They come out great. The proof in the pudding is how long does the ink last and cost of replacements, as well as if 3rd party ink is of the same quality.

I bought this approx. 2 years ago and have hardly used it in that time. I have printed maybe 10 pictures and 80 documents. Now the print head is stuck over to the right and will not budge. Telephone tech support tried to help but were unable. Now I have to pay to get it fixed (if it’s worth it) and it’s barely broken in. My last pixma ip4000 lasted 10 years. I am not happy.

I love quality of my pictures, speed of printing office documents and ease of set-up of my printer. This is my 4th color jet printer from Canon always reliable and satisfactory. The only negative aspect is high price of printing cartridges.

Love the way this printer prints and set up is easy on a Mac via wireless. (Make sure you use the Canon IJ network driver, though. That way you have access to all your paper sizes). It is also easy to print 12×12″ on this printer.

I am enjoying my new pixma ip87220 it is easy to set up, no problems with wireless hook up. For the short time I’ve used this printer I highly rate it over other photo printers I have owned. I’ve done a few 8.5 x11 portraits and the results were amazing they were as near lab quality as possible Canon you have out done yourself with the Pixma ip 8720. Great product. I highly recommend it.

Long time photo printer (30+ years) very pleased – priming to Epson and Canon luster surface, as well as Moab matte – color balance and print quality great. Set up a snap using USB.

Very pleased with the quality and speed of printing, however it has never been recognized on our home network Wi-Fi. We can see every other computer and even the neighbor’s printer, but not this one. It’s almost like the Wi-Fi function was left out completely.

This is the best printer I have ever purchased. The setup went easily and quickly. The wireless setup was perfect first time. The prints are flawless, any size. They look as good as professional prints. I would purchase this printer again and recommend it to everyone.
