Ease of use, nicely marked on the outside.

These stamps work well for marking aluminum, making clear impressions. Considerably more hammer force is needed to mark steel but it is still possible. Marking wood is very easy. The key to getting clear marks is to ensure that the stamp is exactly vertical. I use two 1-2-3 blocks to accomplish this. The next key to success is to use a straight edge so that adjacent letters are aligned. The number set only has nine of the ten digits, but the ‘6’ can be inverted to make a nine.

These stamps are made of hardened steel so they can even mark mild steel tools, furniture, appliances, or anything else you want to ID to prevent theft. The letters and numbers are large and easy-to-read. Because the steep-“V” angle of each letter makes a deep impression, the resulting stamps are also easy-to-read. When I make stamps in dark colored woods like walnut or finished cherry, I fill the impressions with light colored paint to make marks easier to see. You can also stamp leather and wood with these! That’s handy for identifying furniture parts. I have two small complaints: One- there are only NINE numeric stamps. They assume we can just turn the 6 upside down to read as 9. That’s OK for some things, but not ideal when marking furniture parts for re-assembly. I use these to mark pool-table parts in some pool tables that do not already have such markings. So, if that is one of your intended applications, be aware you must use another letter “I” stamp to underline numbers 6 or 9 to prevent confusion.Two- There is no provision for assembling groups of letters into a straight line. If you have complex words or names to engrave, that could be a problem. As it is, I made a magnetic holder that keeps all these stamps in alignment. You should also be aware that there is only ONE of each letter and number. So if you stamp names with duplicate letters, neat-consistent alignment is a hassle. Since these are so inexpensive, I consider those minor problems. One can easily afford to by two or more sets to make nicely aligned lettering for words and names with duplicate letters. If neat alignment is not crucial, and you seldom need duplicate letters, this is a bargain.

Precise and high-quality set of 3/16″ metal stamps at a very reasonable price point. I got these for craft and customization projects and am very impressed by the quality. They are very hard — even up to marking (mild, not hardened) steel tools — and make a crisp, clear imprint. On aluminum, brass, or copper (and of course softer materials like wood or plastic) he mark is clear and deep. Steel takes some hammering. Resign yourself to some less-than-perfect results, and do yourself a favor and use a dead blow hammer. It helps tremendously. If you want the kind of engraving that a jeweler does, these aren’t for you, but if you just want to mark your belongings or add a bit of customization to a project, these are outstanding. Highly recommended.

I’ve only used it once. So far they have worked well.

I have been wanting a set of letter and number punches for a while, but anything with a brand name is expensive, and the mail-order sets are usually just repackaged HF junk. These were available through the Seeds program, so I took a chance. I am glad I did, as these are as good as any stamps I have yet used. The stamps are large and easy to read, and the characters are cut such that they leave a deep, clean impression. The information provided on the website says they are hardened, and the individual stamps have the discoloration indicative of heat treating, so I think it is real. They have done a good job of marking my pouch tools anyway, so Klein and Channellock tool steel is not an issue. I have also marked sheet steel and aluminum, ABS and Lexan plastic and hardwood scrap without issue, though I did get splintered edges on the hardwood if I hit the punch too hard. My only complaints are common with another reviewer: 1.) The 0-8 numeric stamps, without the 9, so you have to flip the 6, and 2.) The set does not come with an alignment jig to keep the punches in a row when using them. Also,3.) There is no underscore, dash or hash mark in the set, though I suppose you could use the “I”None of these is a deal breaker, and the jig I used with decent results was just short piece of scrap to provide a straight edge. These are a good buy, and a good quality set of stamps, should you be in the market. I recommend them.
