I had gotten a flat tire tire on my truck and had tried to use the tools that came with the truck to change the flat tire. Since the lug nuts are put on with air tools it was impossible for me to loosen the lug nuts. Had to have AAA come assist. The AAA driver recommended I keep a breaker bar in the truck for future flat tire removal. That is why I choose this breaker bar to keep in my truck.

This is a finely crafted tool that turned out to be inappropriate for its intended task. My project was to change out a sacrificial anode rod inside my hot water heater. It’s a project that can potentially extend the life of water heater by at least 100%, so long as you perform the task every few years. What I couldn’t have known is the amount of installation torque used by manufacturers as they assemble each new water heater. I’ve seen Youtube clips where a breaker bar can apply enough torque to loosen the anode rod enough to extract it and install a new one. But the homeowner must find a way to restrain the water heater from rotating, even though it’s weighted down by hundreds of pounds of water. Mine wanted to rotate like a dervish and wreck its plumbing connections in the process. So, I can’t blame the breaker bar for my initial failure. Instead I purchased a battery-powered impact wrench similar to those seen at tire shops. It has the amazing ability to apply massive torque (in either direction) to the fastener directly, without causing the entire water heater to rotate. Live and learn folks, but if you’re on the market for a beefy breaker bar, this one fits the bill. It’s beautifully made, and I’m sure I’ll use it again, perhaps to loosen tire lug nuts whenever there’s a flat tire in my future. I’ll find a spot for it in the trunk of my car.

This is a very nice breaker bar that is super handy. It is made from heavy duty chrome vanadium steel, and has a 1/2 inch drive head swivels that 180 degrees. It measures about 30 inches and provides loads of leverage for high torque applications. This will be super handy for removing the nut that holds the harmonic balancer on a vehicle crankshaft. They are usually pretty tight. A must for all backyard mechanics!

Perfect breaker bar

Good breakover bar… Not much else to say. I do wish the handle had a hole in the end to allow the hanging of this on my wall.

Every mechanic needs one of these breaker bars for their tool set. I have lost count the number of times I have used a pipe on a ratchet handle for leverage and wished I had a breaker bar. I got this one because it is a 1/2″ drive and 30″ long. It gives a lot of leverage for those hard to remove bolts and nuts. You may only use it once or twice a year but you will be glad you have it when you do. It is tough and durable for a lifetime of use.

I was having trouble breaking some frozen bolts loose and with the extra tork I got from using this 1/2 inch breaker bar they came loose right away.

Not a whole lot to say about this except that it works like you’d expect it to. Thirty inches gives you a lot of leverage, so there isn’t too much you can’t break loose with this. Add a cheater bar (which, to be fair, it does specifically say not to), and you’d be unstoppable. If you’ve ever found yourself in a position having to deal with overly-tight fasteners, this is a good addition to your tool box.

The product is very well built. But I don’t think you need to spend this much. The fit and finish are excellent. The 5/8″ diameter shaft, along with the drive head, should be able to handle 300 ft-lbs easily. The AO-finished drive head has a spring detent which moves smoothly. The drive head is secured to the arm with a hex head pass-thru bolt … so maybe it’s replaceable [1/2″ x 1 3/16″ tang]. The grip is very comfortable [not knurled] … it could/should be another 1/8″-to-1/4″ larger in diameter? If price weren’t a factor, I’d have given it five stars.
