The Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Safety Gate (Model SS-30) is the maximum safety gate for children. As its name indicates, this gate is designed for top-of-stairway or bottom-of-stairway use but is great for all indoor areas. It features a latch that baffles toddlers yet allow one-handed operation for adults. The gate can swing open in either direction. A stop bracket (optional to use but included) prevents the gate from opening out over the stairs, for greater safety. The Stairway Special Safety Gate will mount at angles up to 30° allowing location of a stud when mounting on drywall. The gate is constructed of aluminum which is lighter weight than steel yet extremely durable. A powder-coated finish provides a long lasting, easy-to-clean surface. Two different size width extensions are available: 10.5 in. and 21.75 in., each sold separately. The indoor Stairway Special is available in white or black.

Great gate! Easy to install and use. Much safer to use than gates that have a bar that stays in the doorway even when the gate is open. This gate completely swings out of the way when open.

The end product gate looks excellent and I would buy it again. But I did have a few problems. First, the set screws that fix the gate width stripped and I had to use a pair of zip ties to fix gate wide. Direction 5 is poor. I put the gate on upside down. I put the wall latch assembly at the bottom instead of the top. I corrected these by using the picture on the box. Don’t through the box away. You’ll need the picture to not make the mistakes I made. But I love the end product. Looks nice and durable

This gate worked just as it was described. Easy to install and adjust for our stairway. Height is good to keep dog out as he was getting close to jumping over the traditional baby gate. Much easier to use the stairs because before we had to step over the baby gate or remove in order to go down the stairs. Latch stays latched. Easy to unlatch with one hand once you get the hang of it. Easy to close just by lifting and dropping back into the holes. The latch falls back into place on its own.
