It is pretty. Very pretty, and, in the end, that’s what sold me. The ratchet is not the newer 72 or 90 tooth style, but it is solid and functional. The quick-release works extremely well. The molded plastic shell in which the pieces all sit is more sturdy than expected, though I may end up backfilling it with spray foam. Why only four stars? Well, the socket sizes go 10, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 18. This means that the two largest sizes will likely never be used by anyone. 17 and 19 are way more common in my experience. Unless they know something I don’t, I’d love to have them offer to swap them out. At least Channellock offers a metric only option. Not all of us drive American made (SAE) cars.The beautiful knurling was tested when I re-lubed the window tracks of my Miata. My silicon slicked fingers had no trouble with grip. The extension bars grip (and release) well, too.The set is manufactured in Taiwan. Here is some important information for people unfamiliar with the past 70 years of Far Eastern industrial history. Taiwan is to China as South Korea is to North Korea. They are not the same country, are not governed the same way and their industrial manufacturing history is also different. Taiwan has specialized in quality tools for decades, in the same way that South Korea now does smart phones and TVs.

Superb functionality is only matched by the glistening chrome finish of this metric socket set. Comparable sets of like quality are higher priced and usually lack a metal container. I’ve been doing mechanical work of all sorts during the past 60+ years, and have used all sorts of socket sets. This set matches the top-notch quality of sets that was quite common 30 to 40 years ago.The ratchet operates smoothly, and has the length to easily allow applying sufficient torque without overdoing it. Buy it and you’ll realize you got an excellent value at a very reasonable price. I highly recommend it to you for your consideration.
