Jumping up to AA batteries, the HL27 Headlamp not only goes up in brightness but also has the light dimming on the front of the headlamp to keep all the controls in one convenient place. It gives you the ability to shine an ultra wide flood beam and then quickly twist the bezel to a long reaching spot beam with transition halo so that you can be ready for anything. With Coast’s commitment to quality, the HL27 Headlamp is impact resistant, weather resistant and its LED is virtually unbreakable. The HL27 Headlamp is backed by Coast’s lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.

The Coast HL27 has everything I look for in a quality LED headlamp, and more. The light has a convenient adjustment wheel to control the output from 1 lumen to a whopping 309 lumens. The lens focuses from full flood to an enhanced spot light by turning the rubber ring. Tilting the light forward is accomplished using a locking gear, which is a vast improvement over the friction hinge that’s used on cheaper models. The removable top strap is also a nice feature, as well as being able to attach the headlamp to a hard hat. With 3-AA batteries in the rear compartment, the HL27 is certainly not a light-weight headlamp, but it’s well balanced and very comfortable. I will gladly sacrifice a little extra weight for the benefit of longer battery life. The combination of variable (high) output, easy focusing lens, comfort and longer battery life is hard to beat.

Been using the HL27 daily for 6 years. Grease, hydraulic oil and some good bumps don’t slow it down. Just an overall amazing product.

Picked this up on a whim because I needed a replacement headlamp for general hiking and camping use. I was frankly blown away the first time I used it at the light output (maybe even overkill for just general purpose use.) The LED lighting really is “light years” (LOL) ahead of incandescent and if you haven’t tried this technology in any of your flashlights/headlamps/etc you NEED to try one out. The focusing feature seems like it will be handy as I can dial in a broad swath of light to light up the whole campsite, all the way down to a strong and long-distance spotlight for tail hiking. Really a very high quality unit overall!

Light works very well, adjustable for intensity and focus. The strap attaches to my hard hat securely. Customer service was outstanding. I am a happy customer with Coast!

This headlamp was outstanding. It takes 3 AA batteries. The construction seems quite durable. The single LED light is extremely bright, much better than the junk I bought from other stores that use multiple dimmer LEDs. The brightness is adjustable which is a nice feature. The light can also be angled down. Overall, I would highly recommend this product! It should be an essential part of any toolbox.

This is a great headlamp, I use it only when I’m in low light conditions but have to do some precision wiring work.

I’ve had a number of other head torches, mostly from outdoor companies for camping and mountain biking. I’ve used plenty of those for handyman work too and so I’m comparing this with those NOT with handheld or area lights (the advantages/disadvantage of a head torch over those should be obvious). The only negative thing I can say about this head torch is that the battery pack doesn’t sit precisely at the back of your head which just feels a bit lop-sided and takes some getting used to.Everything else, from the gorgeous Apple-like packaging, to robust quality of the unit, to the included helmet clips, to the amazingly clear and even light is top-notch. I hadn’t even heard of this company before this product, and they’re clearly a leader in this industry.I’ve included photos of a job I just did, replacing a light-switch with a dimmer switch, and obviously the head torch is excellent. I’ve also used this torch in a number of places you wouldn’t think of, like when replacing a valve in my sprinkler system – even though it was daylight, just having the extra light when reaching into the sprinkler box/pit was a big advantage.Overall this compares very well with the more expensive outdoor-brand head-torches that I’ve used.

With simple AAA power, low-profile powerful and dimmable LED and best in class warranty, the HL-27 is the best headlamp available. I’ve tried several as a movie cinema technician working in dark projection booths and the HL-27 is my “go-to tool” in my toolbox, ruggedly built and a front dimmer wheel that makes it quick and easy to control the desired light output. Truly awesome product!

Great light for working in tight spaces where you can’t hold a flishlight. Dimmer on light makes setting the right work lite eazy.

This headlamp works great, it’s comfortable and throws a decent beam. When it quit working after frequent usage; Coast lived up to the Lifetime warranty without hassle or delay. I can’t wait to upgrade to the HL8R.

great head lamp that I use mostly for night fishing. Bright light that I can use with my hands free to tie lines and anything else I’m doing. Best thing is its just on and off without scrolling through the mifferent modes other lamps have. Just a perfect light for my needs.

I’ve been using this headlamp for about 2 months now. I have had zero issues with it. I primarily use it around the house or when working on my car. The beam is very wide and will sufficiently light up your work area, especially at full brightness. The headlamp came in extremely handy several times when I went out fishing during the pre-dawn hours thanks to the super low brightness the adjustment allows for – just enough light to set up my gear, but not enough to completely destroy my nightvision. On these trips, I finally used the narrow beam at full brightness to get a good look at the water. I was pleasantly surprised with the range. The brightness control is very easy to use as is the on/off button. The headlamp itself is very comfortable. Initially I was concerned about comfort since I had never used one with a top strap (which is removable) or with the battery pack in the back. The top strap actually helped keep the headlamp in place (my cheaper headlamp slides down a bit sometimes) and the battery pack’s position was never an issue, comfort-wise. Battery life appears to be excellent. I’ve got about 30 hours on it (about half of that time at full brightness) and have not noticed any difference in brightness. Construction seems to be sturdy. As a LED aficionado, I highly recommend this product.

I was impressed with the way this was built. The straps are soft and thick. The on off switch is easy to use even with gloves. The battery pack is on the back and holds 4 double AA’s. It is very easy to dim the light using the wheel. The light is on a hinge so it can be tilted down which is handy for walking. The strap is a bit large so barely stays tight on my head. I think it is meant to be used with a hard hat (has clips which is great) or over a hat or hood. All the parts fit together snug without thin plastic parts that would break under normal use. This should be the last headlamp I buy.
