The HL27 has two noteworthy features that make it a standout in headlamps. The rotary rheostat allows the light brightness to be adjusted from low (almost no light) to high, allowing you to adjust the light setting to your needs, not a preset brightness. Furthermore, the light focussing mechanism allows adjustment from a flood light to a focused spot. The the flexibility in light adjustment with the rheostat and the focus adjustment make this light a true standout from others especially true with the lifetime warranty. The downside to the HL27 is the lack of a red light and the absence of an on/off lock. However, the battery pack can be unplugged easy enough.

I order this lamp for work. We were having a shut down for mass construction repairs and upgrades. Each job needed reviewed and authorized so having a light handy was a life saver. The hard hat clips that came with the unit were immensely useful and made it not only better functionally but looking as well. The only issue I have is a minor one and that is that the wheel that increases and decreases the beam intensity is easily moved, I mean without touching it the wheel can spin so I wish it had a stopper but it is minor a simple turn and your good to go. I love the spread to focused beam and the intensity variations. Over all I am very pleased!

I bought this item hoping to use it to remove an under the dash control module for the vent for A/C in my Chevy Blazer. It performed great, lit up the area I needed to see and I was able to remove bad part in about 5 minutes without removing the dash, yippie! It’s also hands free since you wear it on your head, light weight and comfy. I used it outside last night just to see how well it lit up the night, perfect, very bright and projects well, will come in very handy for those cold winters when I have to go outside and work on the property.

The lamp arrived well packed in sturdy and elegant black high-end looking box, with nicely presented head lamp inside. It would make this item very nice gift. I was highly impressed by lamp’s performance. It has quite large easy to reach button for turning on and off and little wheel for tuning intensity of lite (dimmer for close, full for larger distance) both convenient to operate while on the head. I tested it at night in my 20ftx20ft room and with light fully on I could overlook all room like in day light. It does not provide some type of spotlight, but the light is evenly dispersed. Head straps are adjustable, feel comfortable while on the head. Duracel batteries (AA) are included! (Hey!) It also comes with clips for fastening to hard hat. No more dropping flashlight when both hands are needed or holding the flashlight in the mouth.I absolutely love this headlight. It will be used a lot.

Anyone who has worked with real LED lights know the difference between a LED flashlight that is a single bright LED vs multiple small LEDs. It is night and day difference in lumen output.I use headlights a bunch in fall and winter months. I am usually doing things that require both hands out in the dark. I have 4 different styles of headlamps and this is now my go to light. This like bridges the gap between the high intensity style and the very low power multiple LED lights. It has a wheel that allows you to just dial the brightness. When you are using it to get that last bit of lawn cut after the sun just disappeared, the full strength is great. Under the car changing the oil in the dark talks a wider, lower beam. It is east to focus from spot to flood to meet the task as well.I’m giving some of my other lights away and getting another of this model as a spare, if that tells you anything.

Excellent and practical headlamp.

I love the fact that this headlamp runs on AA batteries which give you an extended amount of runtime. You would think it gets heavy but it’s not as bad at all. Definitely do-able for long periods of time. I highly recommend this headlamp for anyone looking for a camping, fishing, professional or everyday use.

I had two Petzl head lights that I’ve used extensively over the years. This light isn’t as comfortable as the Petzl because it’s got more weight up front. Also, the front and back pieces feel large and hard (inflexible) on my head. It’s not a huge deal for me, but having used the smaller form factor so much made it a noticeable change for me.One thing to point out is that you need to be very careful when mounting the front piece. When putting mine on, it came detached. When I tried to snap it back in, the slots weren’t aligned perfectly and the when trying to press them together it bent back the plastic. I could instantly see the discoloration in the plastic – a telltale sign that it stretched and weakened. I’ll have to pay extra attention to this in the future because I doubt it would survive another such incident. What I love about this light is the adjustment knob. It has an infinitely adjustable output control, easily accessible via a large metal knob. That’s a huge improvement over my old Petzl which forced me to cycle through modes by clicking a tiny button that was hard to locate. The on/off button is also easily located. I know from experience that struggling to control a head light is a major time waster. The controls on this light are well thought and well executed.Other than the design of how the front snaps on (a definite weak link) the light seems well made and is quite attractive – not that I should care what a light looks like when it’s worn it in the dark!I don’t know what the light color (temperature) is, but it seems pretty pure to me, which I like. I think it’s important to see things in pure light when working. 309 lumens is a decent amount of light for a head light when working up close. I think a 40W bulb is around 450 lumens, for perspective. I haven’t tried it for general walking (woods), so I can’t say how well suited it is for wider, longer coverage needs. Nor have I compared the lumnen output of various head lights. My old light seemed to fade over the years and the head band got so loose it was unusable. I’m glad to have this as a replacement and I’ve put it to work a couple of times recently and was pleased. No more trying to hold a flashlight in my mouth!

Coast makes quality headlamps and this particular model HL27 is one of their brighter models with 309 lumens. It can be adjusted continuously from high to low light and also from flood to beam, both good features to have. You can also tilt the light up or down for different situations. I use it on my hardhat entering abandoned structures which makes it a plus for hands-free service with the included hardhat clips. It’s a great bright light, but I think it’s a little pricey. Other than the price, 5 stars

This light is very bright. I used it while working on my sump pump. You can adjust the brightness, angle, and focus the beam. Works well in spot and flood mode. There were no instructions so you have to play with it to figure out how to turn it on (red button), focus it, (black ring), and adjust brightness (red ring). Comfortable, and easy to wear. It has helmet clips but I did not use those. Batteries are tricky to install; remove the strap, or lift the edge of the cover and slide the batteries in. Uses AA which is preferred as that is more common.

SO much better than the flashlights we used for a week without power. For one, at its brightest setting the circle of light produced by this headlamp is much larger than any flashlight I’ve ever used; it illuminates an entire room at once. The light is bright with no dark spots. The strap was easy to adjust, and although it does have some weight in the battery pack, once on, it is not really that noticeable since the pack is at the back of the head. There were no instructions included, but then again, really simple to use; there is a bright red “on” button directly on top of the lamp, with a dial just behind it–pretty straightforward. Move the dial to change the size of your light circle. There is also an adjustment to angle the lamp downward if desired. The battery pack cover is easily removed soft rubber, and the headlamp takes 3 AA batteries, although I would expect the batteries to last pretty long given the lamp is LED.Great hands-free light source.

The light is perfect. It is not too heavy. The straps do wear out with time.

This light is set up for use with a hard hat, but it fits a bare head comfortably. I used it two days ago when I experienced a power outage. It was easy to use and by adjusting the light level I was able to see everything and not have my vision comprimised by the brightest setting. I look forward to using the headlamp on my next scout outing so I can have my hands free.

I’m a definite fan of the Coast HL27 309 Lumen Focusing LED Headlamp. Powerful and lightweight, with a sturdy batter pack and adjustable brightness, focus, and angle, this headlamp offers all the usability and options I could possible want or need. It is very bright when set on the brightest setting. I haven’t had the headlamp long enough to judge the battery life, but, if the instructions are accurate, the thing has a run time of 3h 45min on high light and 99h 30 min on the lowest setting (which is really unusable except in the absolute darkest situations). The headlamp comes in a super-sturdy box, and also comes with clips that allow you to attach the headlamp to a hardhat.I recommend this headlamp.

A-plus. I got the most expensive model because of its longer battery life and more features. I adjusted the straps, and it fits my head perfectly whether I am wearing my fold-up hat or not. Click on and off with the orange button, adjust brightness level with the red dial and get wide or narrow focus with the grey dial. I can walk through a dark parking lot and see everything I’m looking at. I have also used it while cleaning dark corners in my home. You can tip the housing of the light downward slightly for desk work, etc. It is so comfortable, you might forget to take it off before going to bed.

Got this for my boyfriend. He works a lot on small items and was looking for a spot on type of light. This headlamp is comfortable wearing and strap is adjustable.. The light is super bright and it is also adjustable, allows you to either spread the light over a larger area or zoom in brighter to one specific area. Either way the brightness of the light is very clear and bright. Awesome. Love it!
