Jumping up to AA batteries, the HL27 Headlamp not only goes up in brightness but also has the light dimming on the front of the headlamp to keep all the controls in one convenient place. It gives you the ability to shine an ultra wide flood beam and then quickly twist the bezel to a long reaching spot beam with transition halo so that you can be ready for anything. With our Variable Light Control Technology onboard you can adjust the light output with the control wheel to any point between the lowest low and the highest high so you can have highly personalized output and runtimes. With Coast’s commitment to quality, the HL27 Headlamp is impact resistant, weather resistant and its LED is virtually unbreakable. The HL27 Headlamp is backed by Coast’s lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.
- Pure beam focusing optic: ack two powerful beams into one and seamlessly transition – with no halos or hot spots- between short and long-range viewing; Coast’s patented focusing technology adapts to your need

I work part-time with a plumber in my area. This light is just fantastic for dark crawlspaces and under-counter jobs. Plenty of light in a crawlspace to look around for unwanted critters (spiders, snakes, racoons) before entering. It holds well even when laying on my back. Also, I love the fact that you can dial down power when not necessary to conserve on the batteries. Many times this light will work for a full day on a single charge if I reduce power when I can. I use rechargable Ni-Mh batteries and they seem to last longer than throw away Dura-cells. It’s so comfortable that many times I forget I have it on. I have used this light for over a year now without any problem. You can’t go wrong with this light.

Very high quality. Well thought design. High power is amazing.Lowest power is great for reading in bed without disturbing others.Has wide flood light to spot light. The best features found for half the price of anything else comparable. This will not disappoint anyone who buys it.

This is the best headlamp that I’ve purchased so far. In fact I have two of them. I especially like the focussing And variable light intensity control. I had a problem with one of the lights and the warranty response was excellent.

This headlamp is incredible. Its worth every penny. The build quality is top notch, and the LED and focusing technology that Coast uses is amazing. It allows you to focus it to a point (portraying a normal flashlight) or focus it to a very wide angle which disburses the light, but this thing is 300 lumens, so its bright enough at night to show you exactly what you want to see! This lamp also has a dimmer switch, which I dont use a whole lot, but it is very nice if you need to conserve battery, and it doesnt seem flimsy or loose, so I cant imagine any issues with a lot of use. The lamp also pivots forward to shine more toward the ground. Also the top strap is removable which might be more comfortable for some people. The battery pack is located in the back, and it runs off of 3 AA batteries (which were included with mine). My only complaint is that it is a little bit bulky which could get uncomfortable if you dont use it with a hardhat or anything. I use mine for overnight surf fishing trips to the gulf coast and it has performed flawlessly over 2 trips, and still running on the original batteries; I will gladly deal with the bulk because this headlamp is rugged and well built. The presentation and quality that Coast has put in the fine details is great! The packaging alone shows attention to detail. This is my second Coast product (I also have their LED flashlight) and I am more than impressed with both products. They’ve got my business for all of my future needs.

I have another Coast headlight that I use from day to day for my work and it’s fine. So I wanted to try the HL23 for a backpacking trip as it was supposed to have extended run time on low power level and I wanted the over-the-head strap. Battery run time was shorter than advertised. a bit of padding where the lamp and the battery box press against the head would be good. The straps were easier to adjust than on my other headlamps.

No matter if you are working under the hood, in the attic or outside at night with this device you can have light shining right where you need it and still have both hands free to do the work. This headset lamp provides a nice bright light and you no longer need a “helper” to hold a flashlight while you work. And if your helper is a teenage kid who doesn’t pay attention on where to shine the light anyway you will really appreciate this product even more.

I’ve used quite a few LED headlamps over the years (I do a fair amount of work outside at night), and this one has two key features I haven’t previously encountered:1) The beam is adjustable (can be focused) from a wide flood to a narrow spot. Other LED lights I’ve used can be one or the other (spot, flood, or perhaps switchable between the two), but not continuously adjustable through the wide to narrow range like this light. I won’t say that the light coverage is 100% even in between wide and narrow, but it’s not off enough to bother me in normal use.2) The output is continuously adjustable (or dimmable if you prefer) from quite bright (at least as bright if not brighter than another 3W LED headlamp I have) to quite dim. Again, I’ve used other LED lights that have 2 or 3 switchable brightness settings, but not one that is truly continuously dimmable.I am finding this is my headlamp of choice more and more often (as I mentioned, I own several different makes and models of LED headlamps), so in most respects I would recommend it.There are a few things, however, that aren’t ideal about this headlamp, which is why I gave it a 4-star rating instead of 5-stars:A) It didn’t come with any instructions or specifications in the box. I was able to download them from the manufacturer website, and if you are used to using this style of headlamp you may not need them, but I still think it’s good to have instructions to explain things like strap adjustment, battery insertion, specs (is it waterproof/rainproof?), etc.B) To insert the batteries (it runs on 3AA, and I’ve been using rechargeable batteries), you have to remove a strap and pop off a rubber cover. The strap sometimes takes a little work to get out. It’s not bad, and this isn’t the only headlamp I have that works like this, but it’s not my favorite design.C) The dimmer knob turns very easily, meaning that if you accidentally bump it, you can suddenly get a big change in light output. I’d like it better if it had a little more resistance or somehow wasn’t quite as easy to change accidentally.D) I have a little concern about the water resistance of this light. I haven’t actually tried getting it wet. Based on what I see of the design it would probably do ok in a normal rain storm, but the instructions clearly state it is not submersible, and I’m not sure how it would do in an extended hard rain.Despite the 4 less-than-ideal features I list above, I still like this light and expect I will get a lot of use out of it.
