The HL8R has all of the great features of the HL8 but adds a separate, rechargeable battery pack and higher output. The rechargeable pack can be charged on or off the headlamp using a micro USB. Users also possess the ability to switch to the alkaline battery pack with ease. Equipped with our Pure Beam Focusing System and Twist Focus Technology, you can quickly shift from an ultra-wide flood to a long reaching spot with transition halo for full viewing even in spot mode. It has high output, medium output and low output modes easily controllable with the light control dial on the side of the front making it adaptable for all sorts of needs regarding brightness and run time. With Coasts commitment to quality, the HL8R Headlamp is impact resistant, weather resistant and its LED is virtually unbreakable. The HL8R Headlamp is backed by Coasts lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. Tested and rated to ANSI/FL1 standards.

I use a headlamp on a daily basis. After years of trying several different brands and price points, this headlamp is worth the money. The brightness options and beam focus are great. The rechargeable aspect alone will make the upfront cost worth it if you use a headlamp with any regularity. I can charge it from my truck to a full charge in a matter of minutes. No more dealing with accepting diminishing brightness after each use with the other AA and AAA battery powered lamps. Very satisfied.

I have been using the HL8R for Years now and love it. I work nights and use it Daily. It is bright The charge last 1-2 weeks on the Rechargeable battery and it has help up to me using it which is impressive as i am hard on things. The only thing i have ever had issue with is the band can come out of the retainer clips on the light or the battery fairly easy which is annoying when it happens but never the less i will not use any other light. I have over 7 different Coast lights and am very happy with all and the customer support is by far superior to anyone else out there in any industry.

Got this headlamp for my hard hat. I do a lot of work at night out in the rain, snow, etc.. I am a mainline technician. When we get called to outages you want something that is reliable and holds up. This headlamp is worth every penny. I got the 4 hr on high before it started to dim on the power pack. Had to switch over to the batteries mid shift which didn’t make it as long. My suggestion get two power packs for a longer than 8 hr shift it’s worth it. Love the lumens and durability it provides. Great product!

The adjust between beam & flood is a little stiff. Instead of clockwise/counterclockwise motion to adjust the focus, pull out & push in would have been preferred/better in my opinion. & finally, when adjusting the focus from beam to flood, vice versa, there’s this little gray spot in the focus, that inhibits your vision. It’s when your focus is in between switching the two that it appears – in other words, there’s no median focus. Aside from that, I’m perfectly happy with it. The battery pack lasts me all night. & the brightness is beyond what I would need.

This is the best Rugged high powered headlamp I have purchased to date and I have gone through probably six different headlamps over the years. I am a electrician by trade and it lasts pretty much the whole shift on high power shutting off during breaks.But if not I use the other battery pack with four AA batteries as a back up. The focussing beam is smooth and handy to have.This will be the last headlamp of you ever buy!! Well worth every dollar

I waited over 3 months after purchase to write this review. I wanted to be sure I had enough long-term data and not just talk up the admittedly top notch performance specs. So I’ve been wearing it nightly on high setting until the light starts dimming and letting it get a full charge during the day. After 3 months of consistent use I’m used to its features. I’m still pleasantly amazed each night, when I first turn it on, how it seems to turn nighttime into day. Spot shined on a nearby object my cell phone camera’s auto setting doesn’t seem to need the flash. I can distinguish raccoons from the foxes out in the forest about a 1/4 mile away. Don’t make the mistake of walking up on someone with it on the brightest setting because they’ll instantly recoil, shielding their eyes and requesting that you turn your headlamp off or down. This intensity seems to last forever but when timed close to 4 and a half hours. It takes nearly that long for the red light to turn green when charging.Overall, I’m very happy with its performance and challenge anyone to find a better product for the same price point. I’ll probably pick up a spare just to have a backup. Every time I’m really fond of something, it seems to get discontinued. With the lifetime warranty this shouldn’t be a problem as long as Coast stays in business.

This head mounted light is great. It’s very bright and the different settings make it great for any situation. I have only had to charge it once in the weeks that I’ve had it, so I can only say the battery life so far has been great. The initial charge of the included battery did take a few hours to fully charge, but with as long as it’s lasted since, I can’t complain. The option for the AA battery pack is great if for some reason it dies and you don’t have a charger.

I love this product. I got this today and charged the battery pack. I had to service a generator this evening and this light has answered my prayers. I really needed enough light to do intricate work with out the help of another hand held light. So I used the highest setting for an hour and throttled back to the medium setting for the remainder of the repair. That being approx another 45 minutes. Bright as I needed and the headlight was comfortable as well as it never dimmed or flashed as my other headlamp. I plan on using tomorrow in the shop and expect I’ll never need my penlight again. The biggest issue I’ve dealt with on my older headlamp was getting the light where I needed it. It’s not an issue with this light. I’m happy as I can be with this purchase. Charging it again and will see how it works all day tomorrow. As of my first experience, it’s well worth the money. Like wearing the sun on my head
