Headlights great and well built but rather heavy. Lithium battery doesn’t last as long as I hoped but better than AA, will save money and keep some batteries out of the landfill.

I work nights and I need a reliable flashlight. I’ve brought many flashlights that worked for a short while but I am really impressed with the HL8R it’s brighter than I thought it would be, it’s worth the investment I would definitely purchase another one. Good quality.

I love this light. It is very bright (like super, don’t look at it directly kind) of bright. It ships with a Lithium-ion battery pack (rechargeable), or you can also use 4x AA batteries using a different pack. I wish it was easier to swap these out, but I don’t mind the added flexibility (since you always tend to have a lot of unused batteries around the house). Its construction is fairly big in terms of other LEDs, but it also gives me confidence that it would definitely survive a lot beating and should last a lifetime.Highly recommended if you are going to start a project and need good lighting while you work.

This heavy duty headlamp puts the other com- petzl-itors to shame. The solid feel of strong light gives confidence while working outdoors at dusk, dawn or night. Great for hiking or running too.

Awesome headlamp!! Very durable. Light housing is metal, not plastic like some cheaper headlamps. Love the extra long cord provided so you can wear the battery pack on your belt instead of your head. Great!

I purchased this headlamp to catch frogs at night with my daughter. Also to set decoys in the morning while duck hunting. There is plenty of useful battery. Although I haven’t had a chance to use in cold weather 32 degrees or below. Light beam is easy to adjust from wide to narrow view.

Excellent build quality. It does add some heft to a hardhat but certainly not a deal breaker for me. Speaking of, the included clips don’t really work for full brimmed hard hats like mine. However, a bit of heavy duty adhesive Velcro keeps the straps, light and battery pack extremely secure to the hat. On medium setting it’s plenty bright for attics and dimly lit work spaces. Highly recommended!

Im a HVAC tech with poor eyesight so i need a food light for reading schematics and such. I use this light almost everyday for hours and hours it never loses brightness in a 10-12 hr shift. I plug it in my car adapter at end of the day and im good to go. No batterys needed. Mine has lasted 3 years now and the only thing ive had replace is the headstrap as it gets loose after wearing it so often in all kinds of weather. I would highly recommend this light especially to professionals who will use it daily.

Use headlamp for walking dog in dark neighborhood before sun-up. Excellent lighting options; I use medium setting & it illuminates enough in front and to the sides to help me feel comfortable in the dark. I wear the batteries on my head even though there is an option to wear them on a belt or waistband. There is some weight to the headlamp but I don’t need light weight; other brands without the same battery-power, which are lighter weight, are too dim & use batteries up in an hour.

Just bought the new HL8R. It is all I was hoping for in a headlamp. Love the rechargeable lithium battery pack. It can be charged in the vehicle between hunts or while driving home. Also the AA battery pack helps. Once had to trail a buck at night and batteries went dead. With this light just remove the lithium pack and add the AA pack and keep on going. It comes with a 3 foot cord so that battery pack can be worn on belt. I didn’t use it because it wasn’t that heavy and a cord can be cumbersome. I like the 3 light levels. Low for slipping in to the stand and high for working on things. Also the flood to spot beam control helps.

I bought this headlamp for my husband to work on his trucks, he had a handheld LED flashlight but wanted something he didnt have to hold while working. The handheld is 600 Lumens and this headlamp i bought him is 615 Lumens so we thought it would be even brighter than the handheld. However, it is not near as bright. Its a good headlamp and seems to be made very well but unfortunately we still need to find him something way brighter. It does the job and works but when you are working on trucks at night you need to be able to see everything well and this headlamp just isn’t quite as bright as we thought it would be, especially for the price. We do like the fact that it has a lifetime warranty though. If you are looking for something super bright then this is probably not the way to go, if you are just looking for a regular flashlight to see at night, that lasts a long time, then this is definitely what you should get!

This is a great headlamp, but it needs just a little more to be perfect. It is the brightest headlamp I’ve ever seen, by far. I really like not just the light output, but that you get high/med/low and can still focus between flood and spot. It reaches way farther than expected and the battery lasts a very long time on high beam. A few changes I want to see, for this kind of money I expect red light as well, as a farmer it is invaluable for catching chickens at night. It really needs a low battery indicator, I don’t like the weird halo shadow that shows up halfway between spot and flood, and I also don’t like how the headlamp tilts forward when I spin the dial from low to high but that’s just being nit picky. It is super heavy but I knew that going into it, definitely takes some getting used to. I use this for farm chores so the extra light is worth the extra weight, but I’d never take it hiking or hunting.

As usual Coast makes a versatile light. It’s really nice having the lithium ion pack plugged in first then when it dies you can quickly switch to regular batteries while charging the lithium back up. I haven’t had to switch to regular batteries yet since the lithium pack has lasted the 3 to 4 hour runs I’ve kept it on at once. As far as comfort I give it 3 stars though because the band slightly irritates me right ear because it doesn’t quite adjust tight enough on the top to keep the side band from resting on the ear. The light beam is very bright, and I like the dial switch to go between brightness modes as opposed to using the power button like others forcing you to click through all the modes when turning off. This light is just a single click on and single click off.

Best light i have ever owned. Super bright zooms and shines far when need to. Battery seems to last a really long time. I like that it comes with the extra battery pack and extension cord for when you want to wear battery on belt.
