This flashlight is deceptively lightweight. The “polysteel” it is made of is supposedly fiberglass over steel, but in actual use it feels like a really strong plastic – this is not a bad thing! It’s much more lighweight than other flashlights we have, and I trust the claims Coast makes of it being crush-proof, drop-proof, and waterproof. This thing is bright! 400 lumens easily lights up an entire room, and I really appreciate the ability to focus either to a spot light for distance, or a flood light for lighting up large areas. It has three brightness modes that are cycled through when you turn it on and off. One nice feature – you can short-press the power button without fully clicking it on to flash the light, and cycle through the brightness settings. This would be convenient if you’re trying to blink the light at someone quickly, or just change to a different mode without fully depressing the power switch. The USB-rechargable battery is a nice touch and is surprisingly light. It’s a clever idea for it to have a USB port built in – if you’re stranded somewhere and your phone battery dies, you could use this to give yourself some emergency runtime. Nice that the flashlight also comes with Duracell batteries in the alkaline battery holder, so it’s ready to go out of the box. There is a strap mounting hole but it doesn’t come with a wrist strap, so you need to provide that separately if you want one. With the lifetime warranty and pretty much indestructible build, this one is a keeper. I’ve got several other Coast lights that are all very sturdy, and this may be the strongest one yet.

Have other Coast rechargeable light that is all aluminum and quite heavy in comparison. Like the 3 levels of light on this model and the self defense shroud on head of light.

This is the perfect flashlight to fill the need for something bigger than a penlight, but smaller than a larger working lantern. It’s got a very impressive beam that not only adjusts from spot to flood, but also in intensity between high, medium, and low. You can keep the rechargeable battery pack installed with the AAA’s in reserve, or vice versa. Not too sure how long the rechargeable pack would run your cell phone, but it’s a nice extra. Mine charged up in an hour and has been going strong for the first couple of uses. And yes, it looks like it will stand up to quite a bit of use, and maybe even abuse.

Very bright and well worth the clearance price.

My gripe with rechargable lights is that they suddenly shut off when the charge runs out, then you have no light until you recharge. This light has a regular battery option to switch to so I can continue with whatever I was working on and recharge after I finish. great idea

Deceptively very light weight with a strong bright light. I was very surprised with the very light weight of this unit. The ribbed plastic outer shell provides a good gripping surface for gloved or wet hands and the unit does have a built in loop for a lanyard but the lanyard does not come with the unit. There are three light intensity settings selected by the push button on the rear end cap. The light does go off every time you push the button so it goes high, off, medium, off, low off. The spot to flood twist is a bit stiff and could be an issued for smaller children. Being a duel source light is a great advantage. When the rechargeable no longer has a charge you can still use the light with normal alkaline batteries (AAA). The light intensity is about equal between the two types 380/400 lumens but the duration is double with Alkaline at 3 hrs. of operation on high. The rechargeable unit can be charged just like a cell phone with the in slot (cord does come with the unit). And you can use the rechargeable cell as a power bank and charge you cell phone from the out slot (same cord). Very good product, well made, versatile recommended.

Im so happy with this flashlight! It has the perfect features you could ever want from a flashlight – super bright, doesn’t get hot, rechargeable, lightweight, hook for a lanyard, and has dual focus. It’s so bright it’s like having the sun light your way at night. I love the spotlight too which helps me spot things several yards in the distance, and the flood light which casts a super wide light on everything (I can see several feet to my right and left without even pointing the flashlight). No more walking my dog in the dark ever again! The added bonus is the way they designed it, you can set it on the counter and it won’t roll away!! This little flashlight is truly amazing.

I have never bought one of these Coast flashlight. Mostly because I thought they were too expensive. I work for a home maintenance type of company. I do mostly just electrical and plumbing. I we’ll start with the I love having a rechargeable battery pack. The adjustable light is also pretty awesome. I have dropped a thing at least a hundred times and it still turned on. I have also dropped it into several toilets and or sump pump pits. So I can confidently say it is a well-rounded flashlight then provides great lighting, is very durable and really is waterproof. It’s an all-around great flashlight.

This light will not disappoint even the most flashlight obsessed, I know because I’m someone who cannot own enough flashlights. What I like about this most, besides a decent amount of light, is the dual battery option. I like a nice rechargeable flashlight, but let’s face it, with all the different things we have to charge these days (phone, computer, etc.) it can be a pain to remember to take the battery out, plug it in, remember to put it back in again, etc. So, the alkaline battery pack is going to be my “go to” source of power. The battery pack will be left on charge and ready to go for a dedicated chore (power outage, outdoor night activity, etc), but like I said, remembering to take out, charge, etc. is a pain. Back to the light itself. Brighter than you probably expect, with the ability to go from high to medium to low, without a strobe. I love this. There are so many times the extra step down in light is necessary or desired, and it is often replaced with a strobe. Love this extra step down, thank you. The build quality is good, and I’m confident it will last for quite awhile, but mentally be prepared this is very lightweight. You think it is going to weigh 10lbs, and it doesn’t. It feels too lightweight to do the job, but in actuality, it does. The light weight of this provides you with the ability to slip it into your pocket without feeling like I’ve got a huge weight I’m carrying around. This is like a survivalist item – it gives you the ability to use the battery to charge a phone for example, and that is really appreciated. There are just such times you have no power source to charge your phone and then you remember you can do that with this light – and then just use the alkaline battery pack instead of the rechargeable pack. Lastly, it says it has a lifetime warranty. Coast was not a name I have heard of before with regards to flashlights, or if I did I had forgotten, but now that I see this flashlight, I’m extremely impressed. Great job Coast!

The Polysteel 400R LED Flashlight is equipped with a Dual Power system that enables the light to run on either the rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack or standard alkaline batteries. This dual power source allows me power for my light at all times. I can also use the rechargeable lithium-ion battery pack to power my cell phone with the USB charging cord. The flashlight is waterproof, drop proof, and crush proof. The light beam is adjustable by twisting the head of the light to move between a flood and a spot beam. You can control the light power (high, med. or low) with a push of the button at the rear of the flashlight. The Polysteel 400R Flashlight is backed by lifetime warranty against defects in materials and workmanship. I use this flashlight mainly in the early morning or after dark when walking my dog. It gives us plenty of light to keep us safe for seeing critters in the bushes and approaching vehicles. This handy little light with its many features will be taken along on my travels. The only con I found with the light is that I needed to charge the batteries frequently to maintain the light’s brightness.I found the charging times to be short.

A great flashlight – Coast’s Polysteel 400R 400 Lumen Rechargeable Waterproof LED Flashlight will meet all your carry needs. I love the aggressive appearance with the ribbed middle. It really helps on being able to grip it. The lens is recessed about a half-inch into the barrel so that it is protected from drops and bumps against hard surfaces that could damage or break the lens. The lens barrel rotates to move the light from a wide angle to a pointed beam by a 180 degree rotation. The tension existing in the barrel requires a moderate amount of force to rotate the barrel, but that is a good thing as it will hold that light spread or focus from moving on its own. (Initially the barrel requires quite a bit of force to release it from the manufactured setting, but once released it operates fine.) There is a molded loop for a halyard to be attached to the light, if desired. There are two options to power the flashlight: Alkaline or lithium, each with their own “cartridge”. The alkaline cartridge came pre-loaded with four Duracell AAA batteries. You also receive a rechargeable lithium battery cartridge with its USB cable. You don’t get an AC adapter to plug the USB cable into, but you can use your phone’s or your laptop’s or nearly any USB outlet. The light intensity or output was great for me, technically it is 380 lumens on high. Waterproof up to and drop proof from about 10 feet (3 M). After reading a few of the reviews, I was apprehensive on The Button to set the output levels, I was really just looking for a simple flashlight that I could turn on and off. The Button on the rear of the unit follows a simple off/on pattern, which is Off-Hi-Off-Med-Off-Lo. You have to sequence through to reach Medium or Low power. It works exactly as stated. To me, I click it on (Hi output) and click it off. If you wait over a second or so, then it reverts to the beginning of the pattern, i.e. Hi Power. To me, that’s perfect. In a wide lens pattern on Hi Output, it is ideal to spread light for safe walking in dark areas both inside and outside. Let me importantly add that there is a Lifetime Guarantee against defects in materials and workmanship. I was prepared to spend double the price for a solid, dependable, and simple flashlight, so I’m thrilled I found this one.

The rechargeable trend has been here now for awhile, and I am happy to say I have a flashlight that I can recharge in a number of different ways. The USB recharger is the way to go in my opinion, it comes with, an outlet (110v) adapter, the USB cord, and battery pack. This unit can be charged directly to the rechargeable battery pack (removed from flashlight). This will accept 3 AAA batteries as well, if you are in a pinch while charging the battery pack. This has exceeded my expectations, why you ask?? Because now I can charge this unit up with my portable solar panel (Goal Zero). I have not owned it too long, but the simple design and the Coast warranty make this a good addition to your pack. Many options are a good thing when recharging flashlights/headlamps, because half the day is night.

This is a great flashlight with a bright, adjustable beam so you can focus on a small spot or adjust to light a large area. It comes with two power supplies, one with AAA batteries and one that is rechargeable. It also comes with a charger cord that can be connected to a USB charging source. It can also be charged at 110 volts but the required charger does not come with the kit. It needs to be purchased separately.

I have an affection for flash lights for many reasons. Over the years I have purchased and kept flashlights in my cars, bedrooms and throughout my home and garage. They have saved me many times from accidents that could have been possibly been life threatening or at the least injurious to me or my family. With this rechargeable or battery combination user light I find an excellent compact LED light that is very durable with a very bright adjustable light for visibility and security.
