The Crescent 1/4 inch drive general purpose tool set (99-piece) is the perfect tool setup. Each tool is conveniently placed in a niche that is shaped like the tool. What could be easier?! The case is heavy duty with a snap shut lid that securely closes it and it has a convenient built in handle. The case is narrow and will be easy to store on a shelf. I would recommend this tool set.

I liked the variety of screwdriver bits but wish the handle ratcheted.

Not really, I thought the tools were bigger than they are.

This review is for the Crescent 1/4 in. Drive General Purpose Tool Set (99-Piece). This is the perfect around the house small project tool set. The set contains the basic tools to handle most of the small to moderate jobs around the house. The set has 99 pieces that should cover most of the jobs around the house. It has a basic ¼ inch socket set, a 16 oz fiberglass hammer, a 16 foot tape measure, a utility knife & blades, 7 inch pliers, 8 inch crescent adjustable wrench, a magnetic bit driver, assorted screwdriver bits in popular sizes and a good collection of Hex keys in popular sizes. Best of all, all the pieces store nicely in a molded plastic case.

This general purpose tool set is handy for the beginner home handy man or DIY’er. It’s compact, hard plastic, easy to carry case contains some basic tools you would need; hammer, adjustable wrench, pliers, tape measure, razor knife, ratchet set and screwdriver set. The majority of the 99 pieces, though, is the assortment of 39 screwdriver bits, 22 sockets and 24 hex keys. These tools are high quality and a good beginning for a home workshop.

Fantastic set of tools. Love the carrying case and everything that is in it. What I especially like about the case is that all the tools and smaller sub-tools all snap in to place inside the case. I can not tell you how many sets in one way or another just end up all over the box. But not with this set! It is a great starter kit for any person who wants to do handy work around the house. Because of the case’s slimness, I can see this being a part of an emergency kit kept in a car or RV (which is what I got it for). All the tools are well made and seemingly has everything you could need for generic household needs — hammer, wrench, sockets, hex keys, tape measure, utility blades, and a huge variety of screwdriver bits. I don’t think anyone will go wrong with this tool set whatsoever.

A great starter set for anyone looking to be handy around the home or apartment. A solid choice for a new graduate, new homeowner or anyone without a good tool set. It has all the tools one would need to fix things around the house (short of the specialty tools). The hammer is very good — great ergonomics and cushioning. The adjustable wrench is solid with minimal play. The socket set is comprehensive and great for fixing a bike to pulling the back off of an appliance. The screwdriver set is also very comprehensive in terms of bits for almost any type of screw or bolt. However I do think it’s helpful to have a good set of flat and phillips screwdrivers – at least of the four bit jobs in one handle. Overall, this is a comprehensive set of good quality and a great value!

I ordered this 99-piece general purpose tool set because my hubby is always wandering off with my tools because he can’t find his own! 😉 This set has a really great variety of basic tools that will take care of most of my needs around the house. I plan to hide it so he doesn’t walk off with the whole set, lol! The carrying case is nice and solid and the tools are high quality. This set would make a great gift for a kid headed off to college or someone moving into a new apartment.

When you put together a compact tool kit and try to include everything that a person might need for small fix-it jobs, you find out the meaning of the axiom, “You can’t please everyone.” I’m glad that Crescent didn’t try to please everyone. Instead they put together a sensible kit of everyday quality tools. I was looking for a set of tools for my two daughters who recently took an apartment together. Their needs aren’t major, but this kit has the things they will use regularly, like adjustable wrench, hammer, tape measure, utility knife, screw driver / nut driver, and pliers. There are also other tools that they are less likely to use, but hat I might have need of if I’m over there and need to put together a household item or make a minor adjustment on one of their cars. Things like allen wrenches and socket set.In my opinion it covers the need of most apartment dwellers pretty well. My only complaint is that the tools don’t all stay in place well if the set is transported, but that is a trade off where the other end of the scale is tools that are hard to remove from the case and near impossible to put back in.

I was impressed with Crescent tools when my employer bought me a set of screwdrivers. As an industrial electrician I had many years to put them through their paces and they held up better than Craftsman, Klein and a host of other lesser known names. So I got one set each for my son and daughter.

I call this the ‘apartment owners’ tool kit; it has a little bit of everything. If you need to assemble a bookshelf or tighten a loose faucet or hang a picture, you can probably get it done with the tools included in this set. It isn’t too heavy nor too cumbersome to bring out and use.The case will easily fit in a hall closet or utility room cupboard. The case is also the only downside I could find with this set. The opening latches are very stiff, to the point where my wife was worried about breaking a fingernail. The tools are held in by the molding of the kit lid and bottom sections (see photos) and the hex tools consistently fall out if the case is banged about or the lid dropped when closing. This may not be true in every set, but it is in mine. Closing the lid reasonably carefully keeps the hex wrenches in position. I may put a bit of gaffer’s tape across the wrenches to keep them in place if the problem becomes irritating. Thus I rated the Quality of the kit as Excellent – because the tools are. The Overall Rating lost a star due to the issues with the case. The case is otherwise well constructed – I like that it has pin hinges, not those molded plastic hinges that eventually suffer fatigue and crack and break. The tools themselves are very good; Crescent has been around for a long time. There are no deep well sockets in the kit but there are 22 standard 6 point sockets in SAE and Metric. The 1/4″ ratchet works smoothly.I especially like the utility knife – it has a lock to prevent accidental opening and the handle feels good in use. The kit includes extra blades. The hammer is, for the DIY’er, very nice; it’s comfortable and does reduce the shock of impact being transferred to your arm. I wouldn’t use it to build a wooden deck, but for normal around the house chores it’s very good, much better than the inexpensive wooden handle hammers. The tape measure claims an 8’ standout (how far you can extend the tape before it ‘breaks’ and falls) and I’ve had no problems repeatedly getting it out to 8’ without the tape falling. There’s a locking feature on the tape measure but it’s quite stiff to use. The one tool that isn’t comfortable to me is the bit driver – I find it too bulbous to fit well in my hand.Overall this is a good ‘one size fits all’ utility toolkit for quick household repairs or furniture or toy assembly.I think this is just the ticket for a kid going off to college or a first time apartment owner or for keeping in the coat closet for quick access to tools for minor jobs. I do wish that Crescent would improve the latches – my wife has to use a butter knife to open the kit (YMMV). And, as long as I’m wishing, I wish they’d include a pair of plain old slip-joint pliers.Crescent offers a limited lifetime warranty and Home Depot has a 90-day return policy on the kit.HTHRegards,Jim
