These are well made and well thought out pliers. I have a pair that I have had for years but this Crescent version operates much more smoothly. The handles transition very smoothly from one setting to the next and at the widest setting I am not sure what I could use this for. How many times have you used your pliers on a nice chrome finish and gouged it all up? Well, these pliers have a nice feature built into the grips that allows you to grip a finished surface without worrying about scratches. Now you don’t need to wrap your pipe with a rag first, just use the grip in the handles.

The Crescent name in tools means quality is to be expected and this tool is a great example. The first thing I noted was the nice comfortable grips. Also noteworthy is the non marring grip on the inside of the handle. The 12 inch handle enables a lot of torque. Jaws will open to 2 9/16 inches. A total of Eight jaw positions for lots of flexibility and comfort and jaw capacity. The jaws seem like they will grip almost anything the job requires. The tooth design on the jaws is aggressive. Seems like they would grip anything presented. This is a must have for the DIYer or the professional. I strongly recommend these straight jaw slip joint pliers.

This is an impressive set of pliers with a very comfortable set of grips. Jaw capacity is at 2-9/16”, with eight different positions. The jaws aren’t so wide as to restrict access in tight areas. The teeth are very aggressive and get a good bite and hold. The angle, size and grips make it easier to get a better grip and it’s easier to hold. The grips also have a non-marring area for some of those more delicate items. These are very comfortable to use and you’ll appreciate the power you can get with them, plus they’re Crescent, so you know they’re good.

These 12 inch straight-jaw tongue and groove pliers by Crescent are excellent in both quality and construction. In the old days we called these “water pump pliers” and I still don’t know why. They are very useful beyond the normal slip-joint pliers in that the jaws can open up much farther allowing use on small to large items. The jaws on these pliers have very sharp teeth and they have a notch that allows them to “off-set” grip pipes and tubing so that you can still use them when the angle isn’t perfect. Up to 30 degrees of off-set is okay. This set of pliers even has a “soft-grip” notch in between the handles so that you won’t mar the finish of softer materials. The handles are made of a soft-easy-to grip plastic that won’t slip out of your hand and these pliers are attractive and well finished. You should own at least one set of these pliers because the variety of uses is endless and you will use these over and over again. These pliers are a great tool and I highly recommend them.

I’ve been buying Crescent tools for a little while now due to the craftsmanship, and these are just as good as the rest that I own. This 12″ tongue and groove plier will compliment my 3 Crescent Auto-Bite pliers. These pliers have a wide 8 jaw position selection and the tooth design is pretty aggressive and grips well which allows great torque. They grip in your hands well and the “Grip Zone” built into the upper handle grip is great for non marring turning of finished pipe such as chrome or brass.. These will last a lifetime.

CRESCENT 12 IN. Z2 K9 STRAIGHT JAW DUAL MATERIAL TONGUE AND GROOVE PLIERS – Good size and weight with comfortably padded handles. I like the fact that there is also a “soft” jaw for gripping in the handle area. This allows you to still use them and not unnecessarily mar an object because the metal jaws are very aggressive. They can also be tethered with the holes in the end of the handles. The straight jaws stay parallel when in use unlike many other “channel lock” type of pliers. A nice addition to the homeowners tool box!

I’m a homeowner/DIY’er, no longer a pro auto mechanic, so this review comes from that standpoint.Crescent makes a fair number of models – this review is for the RTZ212CG straight jaw pliers. From back end to business end – the handles are comfortable to hold even in cold weather and have holes in the end (see photo) for lanyards or pegboard mounting. This is great for me, because I like to have the pliers on pegboard in my garage. YMMV. The handles also offer a “no mar” grip area (see photo) that can be used to grab an object that you don’t want to scratch up, like you might do with the metal jaws. The no mar grips are slightly rounded – nice for grabbing chrome plated plumbing fixtures. The slip joint allows for 8 different positions and the steel jaws are all business. I’m not using a whole lot of hand strength to secure the work – I’m finding the handles are giving me plenty of leverage. The jaws have a maximum opening of 2 9/16”. Fit and finish is excellent. The comfort handles are not insulated against electricity. The pliers come with a limited lifetime warranty and are 180-day returnable.HTHJim

These are definitely the finest of slip joint (water pump) pliers. One of the most unique functions of these is the gripper area in the rubber coated handles that can be used to remove fittings in a non-marring way. I needed to remove the shower head in my guest bathroom to clean it. Normally I either end up scratching the chrome on the shower head or trying to wrap a piece of tape or cloth around the fitting before removing it to protect the finish. With these pliers the thick rubber handles with the gripping area easily removed the shower head without a scratch. I also tried these out to remove the cap on a fire hydrant. The range of opening was easiliy large enough to remove the brass cap on a 1 1/2″ hydrant. Crescent makes some of the most reliable tools and I expect these to work for years.
