When I bought my Aurora R9 earlier this year, I wanted 64 GB of RAM, but the sticker shock of the second 32 GB from Alienware was too much for me. They use Kingston HyperX, I thought; I’ll just get some later when the price goes down. Well…After reading the horror stories of folks trying to add RAM in the Dell Community post, I was expecting a battle but tried to learn from what I read there. So, the 32 GB of Kingston HyperX @ 2933 comes out and in went 64 GB of Crucial Ballistix @ 3200. I purchased two of these (2 X 16 GB) kits. Well guess what, it was that easy…pulled the two Kingstons out and installed the four Crucial modules. Fired the computer up…it lit up fine…sat there a minute…gave me a screen that asked if I had monkeyed with the memory…I clicked on proceed and the next thing you know, I was in Windows. I have shut down and powered up many times…no problems. Wasn’t that easy! I do have to admit that I have Windows fast start up shut off, I do think that may be the root of some folks problems, as it doesn’t really shut Windows off properly. I highly recommend Crucial Ballistix memory for trouble free memory upgrades.

I built my own home PC from case, motherboard, processor (Core i7-9700), CPU cooler and this memory. The i7 requires 2966. This memory is slightly faster. My old (very old) PC had DDR3-1666, with an older Core i7. The difference is astounding, easily perceived, the new machine is much faster. Why? The clock speed on the core i7 is not much faster. The improvement in the processor also helps a few percent. But the MEMORY is twice as fast and that makes a ton of difference! Take a look at this year’s Macbook Air. 1.2GHz i5 but LPDDR4x-3733 (or something like that). My daughter has one, it is quite snappy! That’s what fast memory can do. It’s nice to know that when my i7-9700 boosts its clock speed to Turbo mode this memory can keep up! Has been flawless since installed. I would expect nothing less from Crucial.
