Despite calling for a #2 Phillips screwdriver (the one with such a small head you can’t see any number on it even if you’re wearing reading glasses), the whole process of removing the paltry factory-installed memory chips (two 2 GB) and replacing them with 2 Crucial 8 GB ones was relatively simple. My iMac recognized the new memory without hesitation. Haven’t seen too many of the maddening spinning beach balls lately, either–which, I assume, is the result of the new Crucial memory doing its job.
