Shorter life probably use for all ice and drinking water. Only 4 step replacement. 1 water off 2 twist, old filter out, 3 twist, new filter on, 4 turn water on, 5 run until water is clear-flushes out powdery carbon and air from lines. Takes about 5 minutes.
