I was going to purchase a New York roof hook earlier this year before being told by a fellow firefighter about the Demo Hawg. I wasn’t too crazy about the powder coating so I decided to strip it down to the bare metal. Although I like this MUCH better, you have to make sure you keep the tool clean and oiled after every use or you’ll have to deal with rust. I decided to prime it (using automotive primer for difficult surfaces) and paint it with a metallic paint and then wrapped it up and added some reflective tape. A lot of people will say that the tool is too short to be useful as an overhaul tool, but I find it to be perfect.

Got a ceiling to pulll? Well this babies got the right hook for the job! You can take windows like Jackie chan or Bruce lee. Holds up to the finest firefighting. Grind off that powder coating with a wire wheel and she’s ready for action. I recommend buying one, heck buy six and out fit the rig with them. I hope dasco starts making 6 ft hooks next.

This tool is excellent for anyone in the fire service who does overhaul in a structure fire. Fantastic forks for chiseling along the stud of a wall and the New York Style Hooks provide enough “punch” to get through the ceiling of plaster or dry wall and enough grip to pull the ceiling. Wrapping a coaxial cable with multiple layers of athletic tape adds excellent grip along the shaft as it is a smooth shaft which slides with structural firefighting gloves on.

I’m a professional and volunteer fireman. This tool goes on the back of the truck with me as well as in my jeep when off duty. It is very well built and can be used easily as a forcible entry device. I’ve literally practiced two story bail outs from a residential building using this without a belay. It also marries well to a 3.5 lb axe. Highly recommended and the NY hook end works just like it should.
