Dasco makes solid tools for reasonable prices in the USA so buying this was a no brainer. I really grew to like the protective ring, as it just makes you feel more comfortable about swinging. And if it ever gets in your way you can simply remove it. I bought this to do the final splitting of rusted nuts after being cut most of the way with a hot saw. worked great for this purpose.
