The Dell USB External DVD, Model Number DW316, drive is a very good external drive. This is the second one that we have purchased within the last 6 months for use with our 2 Dell 5820 WorkStations. Both have worked well and were easy to install and setup without any installation problems.

set up is super fast. If your using windows, simply plug into a USB port and the device is instantly recognized and the drivers are installed. Will show up in “My Computer” as a drive as it would appear as if it were an internal drive.

It works fine a little awkward to use on the go

I miss the days when the DVD burner was inside the laptop. Those days are gone so this is the next best thing.
Kennedy Orn (verified owner) –
Sets up easily and is great to install programs from CDs.

Did what I wanted it to do, which was to install printer drivers from a cd drive onto my Dell device. I tried playing on audio CD and it took me to some rigmarole. Hence the four-star rather than 5.

It works well with XPS13 laptop

Smooth and easy operation

expected more i guess its just alright since the pc doesn’t have one built in.
Jarrett Cormier (verified owner) –
works well did not take up much time to set up works like the optical drive that came with the computer
Roberta Harber (verified owner) –
Since my new computer doesn’t have a built in DVD drive, this is a great alternative and fairly inexpensive.

It works good, but it’s a little slow and it’s difficult to put the disk on the center holder. I feel like every time I put a disk on it that I’m going to break it.
Teresa Vandervort (verified owner) –
Most new laptops, including mine, no longer have DVD trays. I’ve used this twice and it worked well both times. Yes, I could have gone online to load apps instead of spinning CDs. However, what’s life without a bit of nostalgia?

Works well. Not much more to say.

My 2nd review of this product. My 1st review was not good because I had not figured out how to use it. It came with a lot of info to cover your liability but no instructions. Now that I have figured it out I am very pleased. I still don’t understand why I have to shut my computer down completely between uses or I get a message that it is still running if I try to use it a 2nd time.

Great fit for small space. Purchased for my wife’s craft room. She loves it and with all of her projects it handles all of them
Norval Jacobi (verified owner) –
Great little drive to have on my desk, no longer have to reach over to the desktop.

This does exactly what the description says and allows you to have a disc reader while keeping the slim form of the computer that we purchased

The drive itself works as it should. But, in order to use it with my new Dell XPS 15 (9510) laptop, I needed to buy a USB-C to USB adaptor. One adaptor came with the computer, but I use it for my Dell wireless mouse because the dongle that came with the mouse has a regular USB connection. You’d think that since Dell is selling laptops with only USB-C ports, they’d provide peripherals, like disc drives and wireless mice, that have USB-C plugs.
