Initial impression is that this device functions as advertised, but its physical packaging is extremely flimsy. If it ever gets dropped, that would be the end of it.

The Dell USB Slim DVD +/-RW Drive is very light weight and compact. It works great and would definitely recommend it if you want something portable and easy to use. I think the only draw back is that is it so light weight that when you open it to put a disk in it tends to drop forward making it slightly difficult to close it just by pushing the tray back in. You actually have to tilt it back a little so as to not cause damage when closing it. It could use a little counter weight on the corded end to allow for the door to open and close smoother.

I purchased this DVD drive with my new Inspiron 3910. The Cyberlink media software that came with the DVD drive did not work for me even after troubleshooting. It would not play any of my disks. I uninstalled the Cyberlink software and installed another media player. Now it works fine.
