   It will operate dependably with a microsoft dvd driver but the junk they send with this thing is useless. Can’t Dell write software for a driver for their own branded unit?

    These DVD+/-RW Drive – DW316 – SnP replace two DVD drives that failed. On both drives, a small section (about 1/2″ long) of the track that the carriage rides on broke off making it impossible to lock the carriage in the closed position. The failure occurred after about 4 years. Note that I rarely use the drives and I assume that the failure occurred either due to deterioration over time and/or after 100 or 200 cycles. Otherwise, when operational, the drives function well and can be replaced for a reasonable cost.

    Haven’t used much. Dell on line orders and all that said only a couple of PC’s would work with this USB Slim Drive, it works with mine. Plug and play whatever. It’s up to date with newer computers and Windows 10
