I ordered this sander and it came in a week early, witch was great! . I brought it to my shop connected the power and dust collection it far exceeds my expectations better than grizzly, shop fox,or other competitors to say the least. This machine will last you a life time , I got it on (Special Buy) for $1899.99 and saved over $300.00 dollars. Even if you have a small shop I would highly recommend this sander , I use mine for Kitchen counter tops standard 25” wide with 80 paper on the front roll and 150 paper on the rear very slow speed strait to finish and than glass coat epoxy two coats 1/4” thick , same for live edge table tops , super great machine and buy!!!!!

This sander is exactly what I expected from Delta, a quality piece of equipment. It’s exactly what my shop needed. The only issue I have is, I would have liked information on a link for replacement sandpaper.

This is a light duty unit and works well for that purpose. You have to run hardwoods through in multiple passes and lightly skim with each pass. If you try to take more than approx 1/64″ or max of 1/32″ off you will jam the feed. If you follow this advice it will do a nice job. I would also say I would not reccomend this unit for high production, it’s just not built for that. It’s perfect for the hobbyist or woodworker that would have occasionally use. I would also recommend building and infeed and out feed table if you are running long boards. The sanding heads dig in if you don’t keep the board square to the table and feed tables help give that stability. I’d also use better grade of paper..The second head sandpaper tore after running a dozen boards through. I purchased a different brand of higher quality than Deltas paper and cut my own. I used an existing piece as a template…..overall it does a good job if used in a lighter duty application. I’m only using it now for a light sanding application in my drawer box assembly area. If you’re thinking about a unit for any production application spend the money and upgrade to a more commercial grade machine.

Initial impressions of the Delta 31-481 machine are good (this review is written after only 2-3 hours of use). The manual however is the worst I have ever seen for a pro-level tool. The machine is relatively heavy (about 400#), with center-of-weight low. This is great when feeding heavy pieces of wood through. Definitely read the Popular Woodworking drum sander tips before using – even if you are experienced with drum sanders! The thickness adjustment handle works smoothly but simply sits on top of the lead screw. This is beneficial – easily removed to access drums without changing thickness. It is also annoying as the handle comes off in your hand when vigorously changing thickness. The sander works smoothly and is surprisingly quiet. The machine arrived with sanding strips installed on the drums which was nice, however the medium grits used are far too course for my needs. Based on my INITIAL impressions, the dual drum sander is far superior to single-drum sanders. NEVER consider using the sander without a good dust collector attached and turned on! Will try to update this review after a few weeks of use, however my initial impression of the machine is very favorable.
