Description
Slice through metal and other tough materials with the DEWALT 14 in. Abrasive Chop Saw. The heavy-duty aluminum oxide grain wheel will cut through pipe, fence posts, tubing and other high-density objects while the adjustable debris guard can be positioned to steer sparks and dust away from the user. It’s powered by a 15 Amp/4 hp motor that churns out 3800 no-load RPM and won’t succumb to overload or overheating. An ergonomically designed D-handle provides sure-grip traction to lower the cutting wheel through the workpiece, which can be fastened swiftly and securely into position with the QUICK-LOCK Vise.

I bought this saw to replace an old Ryobi from the mid 90s that finally died. This saw isn’t quite up to par with my old Ryobi that I’d grown to love. That saw had a heavy cast iron base and a more beefy pivot support mechanism. This DeWalt has a fairly flimsy stamped sheet metal base and the pivot mechanism is a little flexy resulting in slightly “out of square” cuts. My old Ryobi produced cuts that were almost spot-on square wise. Still, the saw works alright. I’m using it it a small welding shop along with a couple of band saws. I gave it 4 stars because it works. Had it matched the performance of my old saw, I’d have given it 5. They don’t make stuff like they used to.

This is plain and simple. The Dewalt 14″ abrasive chop saw is a “rough-cut” saw… period. Do not expect cold saw cuts or any real precision. Abrasive saw blades have limitations because they flex. If you need accuracy, do not buy it. Otherwise, the product is very good for what it was designed as.

I needed a workhorse of a chop saw to cut up over 1000 feet of 2 inch pipe into fence posts. This tool is just the hard worker that I was looking to find for the job. It is used in the field, and holds up to fairly rough use with multiple operators. Great product with quick delivery!

I think this saw is a good value for somebody like me who only has occasional use, but appreciates the ability to set up accurate miters and perpendicular cuts on steel. I’ve used a Sawzall with metal cutting blades for years, but when I decided to build a dedicated welding station/table for my shop I needed to cut a lot of pieces at 90-degrees and 45-degrees with good fits. The guard and spark deflection are effective and I like that the hex wrench needed to adjust the miter angle has a storage spot at your fingertips. The other nice feature is the clamp mechanism that allows you to make a course adjustment by sliding the vice, then engage the threads and apply pressure with the clamp. You never need to turn the vice handle more than 2-3 three turns!
