Best right angle drill I have ever had. Used all the other brands corded versions. The dewalt corded was my go to until I picked this up. I am a plumber….

The time this beast saves me on jobs is so advantageous. Really like the batteries, along with the quick charger. I can practically rough an entire building cordless. DeWalt hit the ball out of the park with the 60v Right Angle Stud and Joist Drill. And it impresses on every job I use it. Thank you DeWalt!

Not a contractor here, but for the job I needed it for it worked great, absolutely no trouble sawing 3.5″ hole through floor joists, lot of power, it is very heavy though

Used this on a remodel job on a 100 year old building. The 460 out preformed every other make on the job. Easily handled 4.5″ carbide hole saws through 2.5″s of roof sheeting and shingles. Would get 40 holes before 6amp hr. battery would need changed. And that was in high speed would have got more drilled in low but roofing crew was waiting lol. We worked the snot out of this drill to include some 2.5″ holes through 2foot thick brick wall and its still working like new with no problems.

It does what it suppose to do. I do remodeling, and I use it for electric wire hole on stud etc.Came with fast charger and a battery helps me with my other flexvolt tools. It is heavier than reg drill, but the power makes up for it. If you have other flevolt tool and look for joist drill, this is it

Drill worked very well. The battery has great run time

It works great, drilled out a whole house and then some off of one fully charged battery, and it definitely has enough torque!

This is my very first portable power tool from Dewalt and I must admit I am very impressed about not having considered purchasing Dewalt prior. Not only can this commercial grade 1/2-inch cordless drill power through studs and joists it can also adequately mix small batches of either plaster or mortar in your normal 5-gallon pails. If you are in the market for a commercial trade stud and joist drill you are currently limited by either this DeWalt model DCD460 or it’s only competitor the Milwaukee HoleHog. Where this DeWalt Stud and Joist Drill shines and excels is for both plumber and electrician while Milwaukee is designed only for the electrician. Difference being the Milwaukee HoleHog drills only a maximum 2-inch holes for electrical conduit and isn’t designed to bore 4-inch or larger holes for DWV (drain/waste/vent) lines. If you are going to fork over large sums of hard earned money for a stud and joist drill I personally would go DeWalt. Why limit yourself with just a max 2-inch hole capability with the Milwaukee HoleHog and instead have larger hole boring capabilities? It’s a “no brainer on this decision” or you risk buyer’s remorse later on when you fail short miserably using the HoleHog. This DeWalt is American made unlike the Milwaukee, has a bright built in LED light to illuminate your work, and comes with a very stout no quibble warranty.I would have preferred having a blow molded hard case typical of what Milwaukee provides versus the soft DeWalt carry bag however this isn’t a show stopper. Batteries for the DeWalt are somewhat more difficult to source unlike all the M18 Milwaukee batteries (always readily stock by Home Depot). The DeWalt offers only a keyed 1/2inch chuck while the Milwaukee offers both keyless and keyed chuck so bit change-outs will take less time. The Dewalt comes with a built-in LED light to illuminate your positioning of the drill bit while the Milwaukee has no light whatsoever. The DeWalt comes with a oversized side handle which is what you desire since high torque drills of this category occasionally kick back when the bit momentarily stalls upon hitting a knot. For me, the DeWalt is simply the better choice in this drill category.

This drill works very well as a hole hog substitute but should really be sold with a larger battery (6.0Ah vs the 2.0Ah it comes with). Only time will tell if the drill will hold up to the price tag. So, I’m keeping my fingers crossed this drill works out long term.

This is NOT your Dad’s drill. You’ll stop drilling, before it stops drilling. In my old barn, I used it to drill a 1 1/2″ hole through an 8″ x 8″ Doug Fir beam sitting on a lap joint of a 6″ x 8″ Doug Fir post. The total length of hole was 13″. I used a 1 1/2″diameter nail cutter bit. The cutting length of the bit was 9″, so I had to drill in from both sides. I set the drill on #1, slow & steady cutting speed. The drill didn’t slow down, balk, or bind. It cut through so easy, you would think it was Balsa wood. This drill is solid pro through & through. All the power you might get with a heavy duty wired drill, you get with this 60 volt Flex Lithiun Ion battery. I also easily cut a 3 1/2″ diameter hole through a 2″ x 8″, with this drill. Everything about this drill is heavy duty: the way it handles tough jobs; the massive nearly 14-lb body; the 7/8″ diameter x 13″ long steel extension handle; the adjustable handle over the body & the 1/2″ chuck that uses a key to securely tighten down bits. The chuck key stores just below the trigger handle. The ergonomic trigger handle was comfortable to hold & textured to prevent slippage from my sweaty hand. It has two speeds for fast, or slow drilling. I gently squeezed the trigger & a bright light lit up the area for drilling & stayed on for several seconds, after drilling was finished, so I could see my results. The battery fully recharged in just 30 minutes. The lights on the battery charger let me know when it was fully charged. The heavy duty carrying case has pockets on the outside for bits, etc. This is a GREAT product!

The DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless 1/2 in. Stud and Joist Drill with E-Clutch (Model # DCD460T1) is an extremely well built and durable commercial tool with a brushless motor that should provide many years of service. The weight of the tool and the clunk of the gearing change make it clear the internals are strong and durable. The integrated two position bail handle helps one balance the tool while drilling. You can also attach an included side handle. This drill features two speed modes (0-300 and 0-1250) and a variable speed trigger. In low speed a mode a mechanical slip clutch will engage if the bit bites into the work piece. Over use of this clutch can reduce the lifetime of the tool. An electronic clutch is also included which senses the motion of the tool and reduces the motor torque to a manageable level if necessary. The chuck is a key style and the key is securely attached to the tool. An integrated work light will light up the surface one is drilling into and it stays on for 20 seconds after the trigger has been released. The rating for hole saws is 6-1/4” at low speed. I was able to drill 2-1/2” holes in 2×4 studs with ease. This package includes the drill, side handle, charger, one battery and a soft side carrying bag. The tool weight (without battery) is 10.6 lbs. The stated warranty is 3 years.

Powerful…had hoped to use it to replace hole hawg, BUT it’s too heavy…..I find the XR pistol drill works as well as a hole hawg!

The FLEXVOLT 60-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless 1/2 in. Stud and Joist Drill with E-Clutch came completely assembled with battery and charger included. I had to supply my own drill bit and I was ready to go to work. The drill is weighted and balanced so that as you hold it by the handles it applies just the right amount of weight to the drill bit minimizing the physical effort required to do the job
