This drill is amazing. I would deff recommend it to anyone that is in the market for a hole have. I’ve used the Milwaukee super hawg cordless and corded and this one blows them out of the water. I love everything about this drill. I’m a plumber and I use this daily. One of the 60volt batteries that you use on this drill fully charged will drill out a whole house. It has plenty of power to drill those 4 1/8″ holes and will go right thru those nails. I was suprised at how well this thing really is.

It does what it suppose to do. I do remodeling, and I use it for electric wire hole on stud etc.Came with fast charger and a battery helps me with my other flexvolt tools. It is heavier than reg drill, but the power makes up for it. If you have other flevolt tool and look for joist drill, this is it

The DEWALT FLEXVOLT 60-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless 1/2 in. Stud and Joist Drill with E-Clutch (Model # DCD460T1) is an extremely well built and durable commercial tool with a brushless motor that should provide many years of service. The weight of the tool and the clunk of the gearing change make it clear the internals are strong and durable. The integrated two position bail handle helps one balance the tool while drilling. You can also attach an included side handle. This drill features two speed modes (0-300 and 0-1250) and a variable speed trigger. In low speed a mode a mechanical slip clutch will engage if the bit bites into the work piece. Over use of this clutch can reduce the lifetime of the tool. An electronic clutch is also included which senses the motion of the tool and reduces the motor torque to a manageable level if necessary. The chuck is a key style and the key is securely attached to the tool. An integrated work light will light up the surface one is drilling into and it stays on for 20 seconds after the trigger has been released. The rating for hole saws is 6-1/4” at low speed. I was able to drill 2-1/2” holes in 2×4 studs with ease. This package includes the drill, side handle, charger, one battery and a soft side carrying bag. The tool weight (without battery) is 10.6 lbs. The stated warranty is 3 years.

The FLEXVOLT 60-Volt MAX Lithium-Ion Cordless Brushless 1/2 in. Stud and Joist Drill with E-Clutch came completely assembled with battery and charger included. I had to supply my own drill bit and I was ready to go to work. The drill is weighted and balanced so that as you hold it by the handles it applies just the right amount of weight to the drill bit minimizing the physical effort required to do the job

This is my very first portable power tool from Dewalt and I must admit I am very impressed about not having considered purchasing Dewalt prior. Not only can this commercial grade 1/2-inch cordless drill power through studs and joists it can also adequately mix small batches of either plaster or mortar in your normal 5-gallon pails. If you are in the market for a commercial trade stud and joist drill you are currently limited by either this DeWalt model DCD460 or it’s only competitor the Milwaukee HoleHog. Where this DeWalt Stud and Joist Drill shines and excels is for both plumber and electrician while Milwaukee is designed only for the electrician. Difference being the Milwaukee HoleHog drills only a maximum 2-inch holes for electrical conduit and isn’t designed to bore 4-inch or larger holes for DWV (drain/waste/vent) lines. If you are going to fork over large sums of hard earned money for a stud and joist drill I personally would go DeWalt. Why limit yourself with just a max 2-inch hole capability with the Milwaukee HoleHog and instead have larger hole boring capabilities? It’s a “no brainer on this decision” or you risk buyer’s remorse later on when you fail short miserably using the HoleHog. This DeWalt is American made unlike the Milwaukee, has a bright built in LED light to illuminate your work, and comes with a very stout no quibble warranty.I would have preferred having a blow molded hard case typical of what Milwaukee provides versus the soft DeWalt carry bag however this isn’t a show stopper. Batteries for the DeWalt are somewhat more difficult to source unlike all the M18 Milwaukee batteries (always readily stock by Home Depot). The DeWalt offers only a keyed 1/2inch chuck while the Milwaukee offers both keyless and keyed chuck so bit change-outs will take less time. The Dewalt comes with a built-in LED light to illuminate your positioning of the drill bit while the Milwaukee has no light whatsoever. The DeWalt comes with a oversized side handle which is what you desire since high torque drills of this category occasionally kick back when the bit momentarily stalls upon hitting a knot. For me, the DeWalt is simply the better choice in this drill category.

Powerful…had hoped to use it to replace hole hawg, BUT it’s too heavy…..I find the XR pistol drill works as well as a hole hawg!

Electrician drilling out a new house. Battery didn’t finish the 1st floor. Had to wait an hour to charge.. Other than that it’s a nice tool, no cord hanging up in studs, plenty of power.
