The DCD470 60-Volt MAX 1/2 in. in-line Stud and Joist Drill is DEWALT’s most powerful drill on the market. It is designed to handle a wide range of large drilling applications. Even with all this power the unit is designed to keep the user in control. In addition to the integral clutch, the DEWALT anti-rotation E-Clutch System, offers technology capable of detecting the motion of the tool. This feature senses the motion of the tool and shuts it down if necessary. The red indicator LED illuminates when the E-Clutch System is engaged.

I’ve no trouble with any of the Flexvolt batteries I’ve purchased, but I think DeWalt should make clear on the package that the 9Ah rating applies when used with a 20V rated tool; and the theoretical rating is 3Ah when used with a 60V tool. A good explanation of why this is so is at: http://toolsinaction.com/dewalt-flexvolt-12-0-ah-battery-review/. As a side note, one importanat reason DeWalt Flexvolt and 20V Max are wired in groups not exceeding 20V is that the pack meets the FAA limit for batteries and can be carried aboard aircraft, so don’t throw away the flight adapter packed on the battery.

This thing is a BEAST. Doesn’t last very long, but when it’s on, the power it puts out feels like a plugged-in power tool. The good news about the short lifespan is that charges back up quickly. Definitely have a backup on standby, if you’re planning on doing a full day’s worth of cutting.
