The DCD797 Cordless Compact Hammer Drill with Tool Connect is based on the latest DEWALT (R) XR (R) Brushless Compact Hammer Drill (DCD796) with additional integrated Bluetooth (R) technology. Connect to the Tool Connect free mobile app and Inventory Manager web-based software to track, manage and customize the tool. With Bluetooth integrated into the tool, you do not need a Tool Connect battery to utilize tracking functionality. The Tool Connect 3-part inventory management solution includes the app and Inventory Manager web-based software that work together to help you better communicate updates from the field to the office. You will get updates regarding the whereabouts of tools, materials and equipment, meaning your assets are tracked during the day and accountability is placed on appropriate crew members. Use Tool Connect and trade; tools along with Tool Connect batteries, the Connector and the Tag for a complete inventory management solution.

Such a fantastic, powerful drill. This new 20-V Max XR line of Dewalt tools are a superior advance in cordless tools. The brushless motors are likely 50% stronger than the older 18-V tools. The optional 5 Amp hour lithium batteries are thicker than the 2 Ah, but wow, do they last all day of drilling/screwing. There’s no ozone smell from arcing brushes either. This drill is nicely compact and produces more power than any other 1/2 in. drill I know of. I have several (7 actually) drills in my tool chest. Two others are the Dewalt 20-V Max XR I’ve had about a year and now this hammer drill. It is so cute and only 1/2 ” longer nose than the other XR drills and half the size of my corded hammer drill. The hammer can be turned off easily if you need a regular variable speed drill. The “XR” stands for extreme run time as a result of power savings from the brushless motor. This newer line of Max XR tools has a wi-fi app which was not of any use to me, but may be great for a contractor trying to keep track of borrowed tools.

I have had this drill going on three years now and it is still going strong. I work in construction an often need to go hammer drilling to hand equipment in places that can be difficult to reach with a corded drill. This drill has never let me down. The power and drive this drill delivers often outlasts and outperforms other brands. My friends who use Milwaukee offer come burrow my Dewalt when they need the job done and their drill won’t cut it. About a year ago I lent my drill to someone who misused it. The damaged the chuck prints badly and it no longer was able to sustain its grip on any bits. I took it to a Dewalt service center in Carrollton, TX with my receipt and they took care of the repair for free under warranty. Staff were friendly, respectful, understanding, and polite. They repaired the problem quickly and it has worked great since.

I’ve had this drill for about 3 weeks, and it is working great for my needs–casual home renovation projects. The drill is lightweight; I weighed it at 3.5 lb with drill, 2.0-Ah battery, and belt clip attached. It is powerful with plenty of torque for drilling and screwing into 2x4s and plywood. I’ve drilled 1-inch diameter holes into 2x4s and sunk deck screws with ease. The smartphone app does allow you to configure 3 modes of operation on the drill: each mode defines the LED’s light intensity (0-100%), light duration (0 seconds to 20 minutes), and max rotational speed (171-571 rpm for gear 1, and 600-2000 rpm for gear 2). The app also gives usage stats… number of trigger pulls and total runtime (hours, minutes, seconds). I cannot comment on battery life yet, but my fully-charged battery had “2/3” (51-74%) charge remaining after a runtime of 16 minutes and 470 trigger pulls. The attached photos show the app’s diagnostics screen.

Bought this drill about a year ago and have put it through its paces nearly daily. Everyday it does what I need and then some out preforming every other drill I have and all of my friends drills. Moment I first put a battery on it and let it go I knew I was in for a treat and I was right. Haven’t found a single thing it struggles with. And thanks to the Bluetooth I’m not worried at all about it going missing. Wish I had more tools as reliable as it.

This is so much better than my old drill. I love the compact case and strength of the battery. I fully charged in and was doing projects all weekend long and never needed to recharge. I kept this one on the assumption dewalt would call me and make it right. I have emailed, waited on hold, and now writing this review. This 20-Volt MAX XR with Tool Connect Brushless Lithium-Ion Cordless Compact Hammer Drill/Driver Kit w/ Batteries and Charger by Dewalt is another great addition to my DeWalt collection of power tools. The Drill comes with two 20 volt batteries and a charger in a very nice hard plastic case. I have other 20 volt Dewalt tools so with this kit I now have 5 20 volt batteries so I don’t have any worriers about lost work time because of a dead battery. The batteries charge fast and they last a long time. This drill also has a lot of power and torque for those tough screws, bolts and such but light enough to use all day without wearing your arm and hand out. Another great feature is the ability to track the drill/driver via a Bluetooth application. You can customize the brightness and delay of the integrated LED work light and being a brushless motor it lasts up to 75% longer than a 18 volt brush motors. This is to me a very high end Drill/driver and well worth the money.

I have owned this drill for about 8 months now. I have absolutely no complaints, although I will say if you plan to do some serious work with this, pick up a few 5 or 6 amp hour batteries. This drill chews through the batteries provided in the kit pretty quick.I have found this tool capable of doing everything I’ve put it through. I’m not a contractor of any sort, but I’m an avid DIYer and handyman-on-the-side, so this tool has seen some serious use. Haven’t found anything it can’t drill through quickly and efficiently when using the proper bit, and it’s light enough even with a 5 amp hour battery attached that I don’t get fatigued. The built in LED lights are great, they adequately light up the project and I’ve rarely found that my hand or the workpiece gets in the way.I have not used the Toolconnect feature, but if it performs like the rest of this drill, I have no doubt it would also exceed my expectations.
