So far this has been a great tool. Used mainly this winter for powering a pistol bit auger thru ice. Ice has been an avg of 8 to 10 inches and we have been able to drill up to 75 holes with one battery maybe more depending on ice conditions. The drill is very powerful and smooth to operate. The case that comes with this drill is secure and provides a great place to store your tool. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a 1/2 inch drill.

I waited for this product to go on sale, which it finally did. This was an upgrade from my Dewalt 18v drill, which after at least 10 years of ownership was showing signs of eventual failure in the gears. It was a very good drill. I expect the new one to be even better. So far, it’s living up to that expectation.The only negative so far is that the 20v drill is lacking the bit holder that the 18v drill had built in. I had to track down the right bit holder and it’s Dewalt product number N131745. I ordered a two-pack for $11.Both batteries arrived with only one bar of charge and both went straight to the charger.

The 18v cordless drills from DeWalt had the battery inserted into the bottom of the drill and they are held tightly in place. For the 20 volt hand drills the design was changed and the battery pack slides into the drill handle and there is a lot of play and it feels like it is going to drop off. The 3-speed DeWalt drills are my favorite as they have 3 usable speeds with a low and high RPM setting and a 1000 RPM middle range that is perfect when using very large hole cutters. These new 20v hand drills have more power and are smaller in size than the 18v models and for someone who does not mind loose fitting battery packs it is an excellent drill.

You get what you pay for. My old 18 V battery-powered drill & charger were obsoleted by these newer batteries & higher power. Old 18 V batteries when replaced were found to last only a few months, and the same for the chargers. So glad my hand was forced to get this 20 V drill (battery and charger are 2 separate items–does not come with them). This is the drill you want to have (stronger than my older electric drill). Highly recommend this if you want a lean green working machine.
