I have several Dewalt tools and am pleased with all of them. I needed a drill with a side handle to operate my Eskimo Pistol ice auger with at least 18 volts and 4 amps. I already had a charger and two 5amp/hour batteries, so ordered this bare drill. It’s perfect. Drill and battery weigh less that 5 pounds and the pistol is less than 4 pounds… beats the heck out of lugging my 40 pound gas auger! This drill packs up easily and powers the auger through 20 inches of ice in under 10 seconds! And at 68, I can lug it across the ice so much more easily! Bought the same drill in a “kit” (Drill, tote, charger, 2 batteries) for my son in order to share my joy!!! Instead of having a gas powered auger I can use a few times, I have a drill I can use all year!

The drill is very good. This is my first 20 volt drill/driver. I have been using 20 volt batteries for a while with an adapter for the old 18 volt tools. I have been converting to 20 volt tools one at a time. I finally cooked the gearbox in my 8 year old drill driver. I like the new one because it is smaller, lighter then the bohemian predecessor. The features are nice, I hope the longevity stands.

So far this has been a great tool. Used mainly this winter for powering a pistol bit auger thru ice. Ice has been an avg of 8 to 10 inches and we have been able to drill up to 75 holes with one battery maybe more depending on ice conditions. The drill is very powerful and smooth to operate. The case that comes with this drill is secure and provides a great place to store your tool. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for a 1/2 inch drill.
