The DEWALT DCF896 20-Volt MAX Lithium Ion Cordless Brushless 1/2 in. Impact Wrench with Hog Ring Anvil and Tool Connect is based off of the latest edition to the DEWALT impact wrench family, the DCF894. Integrated Bluetooth technology pairs this tool with the free Tool Connect mobile app and online inventory manager portal, allowing users to track, manage and customize the tool settings. Through the app, users are able to program 3-customized modes based on individual needs and have control over forward and reverse speed to account for different fastener sizes and types, LED brightness and delay as well as Precision Wrench and the all new exclusive Precision Tap modes. Within Precision Wrench, users can program the tool to automatically shut off after impacting for a set amount of time, useful for those performing repeatable applications and helps with tightening consistency by removing variability in impact time. Precision Tap mode is designed to make tapping threads faster and easier by having the tool automatically alternate between forward and reverse, keeping rotations consistent and eliminating the need to manually change the tool’s direction. Use this tool along with other Tool Connect offerings for a complete management solution.

I was slightly disappointed in this impact. Coming from using very expensive IR industrial quality tools in a previous job, in comparison this impact is definitely of a lower design quality. It seems like it is built well enough, but the layout of the direction switch places it in a location that it will be accidentally switched while using the tool, and it takes very little effort to manipulate it (either intentionally or unintentionally). The speed control is also very poor. It has a programmed ramp rate that builds as the trigger is pressed, effectively un-linking what your finger is doing from what the impact is doing. This makes precise control of the torque very difficult and has resulted in more than one broken fastener for me. The ultimate torque is very impressive for an electric impact though, and I doubt you’ll run across much you can’t bust loose (or break..) with it. It’s also massively heavier than most I’ve used and this would make a difference to me if I was using it every day. It would be great for occasional use, but if you’re making your living using it, save up and bite the bullet for an IR or similar, because there is a definite difference.

I picked up the unit about three months ago and finally was able to use it this past week to take down my kids playground over a couple days as they had outgrown it. The wrench made quick work and charge held out longer than I did. I look forward to using this to maintain my two cars.

Tested it against my stepson’s Snap On cordless impact wrench and his struggled to loosen a nut off a bolt that my Dewalt had tightened. This impact was a little disappointing in the removal of the lug nuts on my camper that i had tightened with a 4 way last year. Also disappointed in that i had to purchase a battery separately. Other than that it preformed well.

hog ring lasts 1 socket then falls off, and socket no longer stays on , went to find replacement parts to replace anvil with pin type or buy hog rings in bulk but no parts are available for this? bad move on dewalt not offering parts, will not buy another just to not be able to fix when it breaks.
