I was tired of pulling extension cords through the yard to cut branches off our bushes. I decided on the Dewalt 20-Volt MAX Lithium Ion Cordless Brushless Reciprocating Saw with FLEXVOLT ADVANTAGE (Tool Only) because I already have several Dewalt tools and don’t need additional batteries or chargers. The tool is very powerful and easy to use. The keyless blade change is easy and done in seconds. The bight LED in the front can be helpful in dark spaces. The tool come with a tiny blade.

This is my first experience with and using a DeWalt Lithium-Ion battery and its 6.0 AH charger. The only issue I encountered was removing the red cap that protects the battery contacts when in transit. The Instruction Manual does not address removing this safety cap, but provides a drawing showing the cap sliding off the battery to the right. I tried for several minutes to remove the cap without success. I was about to take a flathead screwdriver and attempt to pry it off when common sense prevailed that this was not right. After re-examining the battery I noticed the yellow indentation on one side of the battery was a depressible lock/un-lock tab. Pressing this tab immediately released the red safety cap. The bottom line being, a one line sentence in the Instruction Manual such as “Press the yellow tab on side of battery to release the safety cap and to also remove battery from charger.” would have sufficed. With respect to the battery and charger’s performance, the battery quickly charges up and performs well in my DeWalt jobsite radio. See attached photographs.

This is a heavy duty powerful saw. When I first got it I didn’t have any projects where I need it, so I went out to my garage and clamped a 4×4 down and and began making cuts. I made sure my blade was new and started cutting off about 2 inch pieces. I went right through with no problem. It had plenty of power. After cutting 5 pieces my arms were getting tired. The battery I had was a 12ah 20/60 flex volt which weighs in at 3 pounds and the saw weighs 8.8 pounds. That’s about 12 pounds Which can get quite heavy if you’re working overhead. Other than that it’s fantastic. I know how to use this so I didn’t have to look at the directions. But if you have never used one the directions are easy to follow. They even give you a blade too.

Haven’t really done any jobs where I’m using the sawzall alot, but I did test it out on a pressure treated 6×6 and it cut thru it effortlessly. Like it was a 2×4 with any other cordless sawzall, I’d recommend it to any pro who wants the best

We have some demolition to do. We have large square foot garden planters that are starting to fall apart and cannot be fixed. I needed something to make the job easier than using a standard saw and reciprocating saw is exactly the right tool. The saw is cordless and brushless and works with a 20V battery (not included) which makes it easy to use in the backyard. This is a powerful tool and makes short work of something that I fully expected to spend hours and lots of hard labor accomplishing. It has a locking mechanism that keeps the blade safely installed and allows you to easily unlock it to remove or to change it.The tool comes with a blade that can be used for wood and metal, which means it can cut through wood with nails in it. There are plenty of other blades to buy for other uses. I plan to buy several, including one that will work well to cut limbs off of the trees in our yard.

I picked up this DeWalt “Flexvolt” 6 ampere battery and charger set because I have several DeWalt tools and these batteries are interchangeable. It is nice to have a fully charged battery like this one ready for my DeWalt drill, circular saw, leaf blower, and grass trimmer in case it is needed as a back-up. Having the extra charger comes in handy when I am charging more than one battery at a time (example: my DeWalt mower uses two batteries). This set does come with an instruction manual in case you are just starting to use battery-powered tools. Charging the battery is very straightforward; just slide it into the charger until you hear it click into place. The charger has a handy red LED display showing the state of the charge (manual explains the LED lights), and it will even sense if your battery is to hot or too cold to charge (note: I keep my batteries in the house to avoid extremes of temperature which affect battery performance but they can get hot after use in any event). I highly recommend this battery and charger set if you have DeWalt battery-powered tools because it will keep you up and running with your tools when you need them!
