I was excited to get to test out another dewalt tool, the first was great so I figured the second would be similar. Unfortunately I was disappointed shortly after opening the box and starting to mess with the laser. Having never used one before I didn’t really know what I was doing and the instructions are pretty much useless unless you’ve used one before, there’s only pictures with ZERO words describing what an image means. I was able to figure out how to measure inside length and if I wanted to butt the tool against a Suva e and measure that way. It functions well as a digital level even when used as a tape measure. Overall it’s a great tool if you know what you’re doing or very good at Pictionary.

So far I have been very impressed with this laser range finder. The laser dot is bright and has excellent range indoors. Distance measurement if very accurate. By far my favorite feature in the angle finder built in. This is especially helpful for long distances and make the tool double as a laser level. My largest complaint would be the instruction manaul of pictures. They don’t fully explain operation and all that this tool will do. Construction and materials are top notch and it takes a pretty good drop. Overall I have been very pleased with the tool and find new uses for it each time I get it out of the bag

If you have ever tried to measure a ceiling for crown moulding by yourself with a tape measure, you are really going to appreciate using this laser measuring tool. Using a tape measure to do that job is almost impossible by yourself, but by using the laser tool it is a simple job with very accurate results.I have been using the Dewalt 165 ft. Laser Distance Measurer for several weeks. It is a very well made tool. Build quality is great. It feels good in your hands, has nice rounded corners and a good quality case. Also comes with a nice carrying pouch.Buttons are easy to reach and use.The display is easy to read and has adjustable brightness. The accuracy is very good. It displays measurements to within a 1/32 of an inch. The units can be switched to inches, Feet-inches, and metric. It has a bright visible laser dot to show you where you are measuring. Just place the laser measurer against a wall, press the button to show the laser dot, move the dot to the point you want to measure, press the button again, and it displays the measurement. It will keep track of the last 3 measurements. Although the laser dot is bright indoors, I found that I could not see it when trying to use it outdoors in the daylight. However, the display is easily readable outdoors.It has many built in calculations that it can perform. Like calculating the area and volume of a room. Or calculating the height of a building. You do this by moving away from the building, then measuring from the place you are standing to the base of the building, then the top of the building. Press a button and it will calculate how tall the building is. Amazing…The unit has an automatic off feature to save power, then you just press a button to turn it back on.This is one of the most handy measuring tools I have ever used, I highly recommend it.

Fantastic product. Easy to use interface. So many features that calculate the angles and distances that keep me from making mathematical errors trying to figure them out. I love the way it holds the last 3 measurements on the screen (saves having to remember or write them down). The angle indicator is very helpful for me as well. I have owned other similar products in the past and they were no where near the quality or included features of this laser measurer. Definitely recommend this product.

I recieved this a while back and I’ve used it a couple times. It’s easy to get a quick measurement. It’s good that it has many different options but it’s complicated to access every option.

This is a standard laser distance measurer- you can use it 2 ways. Simplest is just point & Shoot, strictly line of sight, but you must have something for the light to bounce off- usually a wall, but it could be a scrap of drywall in your assistant’s hand (but not a window.) It will give the distance in whatever units you need- meters, feet, feet & inches. (Okay, no cubits or acres.)The second mode is the bag of tricks and you WILL need the instruction manual, because the details get complex. You can do area, volume, some addition and memory of quantities, height based on distance and angle up, height based on angle up AND down plus distance.Accuracy is amazingly good- more than enough for any kind of estimating, right on the edge of good enough for finish work, certainly fine for framing. It won’t replace your tape measure, but it’s a handy addition to your toolbox, especially if you do a lot of estimating.

This tool DWO165 Distance Measurer was sent to use to test we have used it for about 2 weeks now so here we go: BAD:1.Needs better directions for the non contractor or a person that has never used a tool such as this.2.It needs a full body back lite.3.Where the batteries goes what is that leaver you have to move to install batteries.GOOD:1.The measurements are on point.2.Nice and light weight.3.Nice carrying case but need a metal clip to clip on waistband.4.Love that they send the battries with it hate when you buy this and then you have to go back out forgeting you need these to get started.5.We would recommend the DWO165 Laser Distance Measurer.6. Go and get yours…..I got mine……

Great tool, however the distance button should be pronounced or elevated, so that your finger can feel it without having to look at it before depressing.

This product is very thought and durable. I have dropped it off of my one story roof and only had surface scuffs. The functions were a little thought to figure out how to calculate. Better descriptions in the directions would be great. All in all another great product from Dewalt
