I am a do-it-yourself kind of guy – so not a professional contractor or builder. But I LOVE this thing. The number of times I cannot find my tape measure or my tape measure is not long enough or it flops over on me when I try to use it – etc! It can make you scream. I have used this quite a bit and love it. Here are my only complaints – 1) I wish they had a more “full on” instruction course on how to use it. The little picture book that it comes with is pretty useless. I have tried looking on YouTube and other places – gotten a few things – but I have no idea how to use 90% of the features. The straight measure – works great and is pretty easy. I have obviously figured that out. 2) When you use it over long distances – I measured for carpeting in our company office and some hallways were 60 feet long – you need to hold it in a very specific way to get a clean reading. pushing the red DIST button causes it to wobble and the results are not as accurate. I wish they provided a button on the side that made doing this easier. I would press the bottom of it against a wall – but might have to shoot over file cabinets (for example) and the awkward way to get a clean read was frustrating. I think an ability to push a side button on a read would help a ton. 3) If they could put a tool with it (attached) that would let you measure from the tool to the unit that would help measuring something that is flat and only a partial measurement – like the distance half way across a counter. 4) I would also like to pull it back from a point and have a moving distance – so I can stop at a specific point and mark it. Like making a series of cuts on a big 2 x 4 – using a marker (comment 3). The unit may do this moving measurement and if it does (see point 1 – it is not explained how to do it). But it is very accurate and I keep it in my work briefcase. Have used it more than I thought I would. Fast and easy to do the basics. So,I Iove it – but if they make it even better they will put the old tape measure business completely under.

The DIST button is too difficult to press and should be raised above all the other buttons and/or repositioned. I use it in real estate appraisals, so I use it daily and frequently. The biggest improvement over other brands (Bosch) is the battery life is so much better.

I previously owned a laser that only displayed one measurement at a time, which was cumbersome when having to take multiple measurements.. This one displays your last 4 measurements, which is a huge benefit. No more need to write down a measurement before taking another. Not only is this device feature-heavy, but the build quality is like all other DeWalt tools and will clearly last a long while. I have yet to test all the different features this unit has, but my impressions so far is that this little laser packs a punch and is well worth the small investment.

After realizing that it could only be used outside on gloomy days the thrill went away for me. I do like the vast amount of calculations it does however it seemed hard to use. Maybe with more time in is it would get easier. The main drawback is the fact it doesn’t work in bright conditions

This is the first laser distance measure that with a glance I could read because of the large display.It has great functions also leveling measurements trianglelation, squaring and cubic to name a few. Best laser distance measure I’ve ever had.

Love the laser but the picture instruction booklet is probably the worst user instruction manual I have ver had the misery of looking at. Come on Dewalt, you can do better than this!

This product has been at my side on nearly every job. And I do a lot of different things from building 5 strand barbed wire fence to building houses. And I can’t tell you how many times I have dropped this product or from how high up, but I do remember that I dropped it from on top of the 16′ step ladder. I was on straight on the pavement! Expecting it to be shattered but to my surprise I only had a few minor dings and scratches!!!! So I pulled my tape out and checked to see if it had been knocked out of calibration, and to my surprise It was spot on!!!!!

Dewalt has continued to lead the way in tool performance A to Z. This distance measurement laser is another example of Dewalts commitment to the industry. The first quality noticed was the weight of the unit. It feels durable and strong. It is a simple design yet feels tough. The laser is strong and accurate. It does not tweak or twitch. I have compared measurements numerous times and the accuracy is impressive. Dewalt certainly helped to advance this type of device. It would be nice if this laser could do more in one unit. Having a diverse measuring device would be beneficial in the industry.
