The Self-Leveling Interior/Exterior Rotary Laser Level from DEWALT is accurate to 1/4 in. at 100 ft. and constructed to withstand the abuse of rugged job site conditions. A durable rotary cage helps protect the head if dropped and an innovative configuration of multiple, thin struts maintains the unit’s strength while eliminating blind spots. The unit is self-leveling in horizontal mode and the addition of arrow buttons used for manual leveling in vertical mode are far more intuitive than traditional knobs. Sharp and bright, the beam can be seen up to 100 ft. indoors and can be recognized up to 1200 ft. diameter outdoors with the included detector. The laser also offers a weather-resistant housing for durable and accurate performance.

This tool made the difference for leveling out a piece of ground and building a perfectly level fence. I used this to grade a 40′ X 70′ area of our backyard to put in a play area for our children that the dogs can’t get into and soil up. The laser set up quickly on a scaffold and projected a visible beam even in the daylight. I didn’t need to use the extender but I did check its operation to about 200′ and found it to work correctly. I like the fact that this uses D cell batteries and I don’t need to rely on keeping a battery charged for a tool I will only use several times a year. I plan on getting the tripod that is available for this as well to help secure the laser against bumps. The case is nice and padded to keep everything safe and secure while stored. Just like every other DeWalt tool I own this one is built sturdy and feels like it will last a lifetime if not abused.

This rotary laser kit is easily taken to any job site in the 15″L x 10″W x 10″H bag with carrying straps (see picture). The whole package weighs less than 10 pounds. Some thought went into the packaging. As you can see from the pictures below, the black foam insert in the bag has secure placement for the two D cell batteries that power the main component, the rotary laser as well as the 9 volt battery which powers the digital laser detector. The batteries and all the other components of this kit fit very securely so there are no worries about anything getting damaged in transit. The batteries should be stored in the inserts in the bag to prevent any battery leakage when the laser is not in use. A circular cage at the top of the unit protects the laser from damage. There is a very comprehensive 44-page instruction manual that also includes troubleshooting tips as well as cleaning, maintenance, and calibration for the laser. This is a very well-thought-out tool for use inside or out. The only thing I will mention is that this kit does not come with a construction grade tripod so plan to purchase that separately. It is a pricey tool, but I highly recommend it due to the design and features.

As usual with Dewalt tools this laser level is well made of quality materials and works as promised, I really like it when a manufacturer delivers a product that lives up to expectations. Another great surprise is that EVERYTHING is included even the batteries!! It comes in a very nice carrying bag with a foam insert that has recesses cut for all of the pieces, even the batteries (good idea to remove the batteries when not in use). It even includes a target card and a digital laser detector for locating the laser beam in bright light conditions. This tool will save you time and it will pay for itself in no time.

Easy to use and set up, and still on my first set of batteries so no complaints about battery life. Worked well for setting footing elevations, no problems detecting the laser working in the sun on a 24 x 45 foot foundation. The storage bag has recesses for the laser head and detector, so this provides protection for the electronics. The bag quality was excellent. The tripod was just good enough, could have been sturdier.

Pros – Easy setup and worked as advertised. Cons – The tripod that was with all the different levels has a 1/4″ threaded screw on it. Beware this unit has a 5/16″ threaded receiver on the bottom area for mounting.

We are building a new 32’ x 40’ garage and this allows me to all the elevation work from the footers to the concrete floor by myself. The sounding device makes it relatively easy to know when the beam is on the marker. The self-leveling is quick. Went through calibration and it was within specs. The unit is light weight and seems well made. It did include the batteries needed to operate and the bag makes it easy store and carry everything, including extra batteries. I wish they would offer it in a hard case. It does not come with a tripod or grade rod, but I have a tripod from another unit and it fits. I can see a lot of other uses from me.

It comes with a soft case and internal padding, clamps, mounts, and a detector to tell you exactly where your mark is within 1/4″ over 100′. In other words negligible for most applications. It is well-built and lightweight, easy to use in either horizontal or vertical mode with two speeds, and even has a safety cage to protect the laser and whatever you may accidentally jam into it while it is moving. Anyone doing a serious project with whole rooms or long distances need a level line for trim, elevation marking, or similar will find this rotary laser invaluable.
