When drilling a precise hole, without wanting to take the time for a smaller ‘pilot hole’, this drill is IDEAL. The Pilot-Point tip helps to start the drill & prevent it from walking. Drill remains sharp. I am drilling through wood, acrylic and stabilized woods mostly. Shank is round BUT it does have 3-flats for better grip in the drill press or protable drill chuck. I want a whole size collection of these! I wish they carried Metric sizes too.

I needed to drill eight (8) holes in concrete.This bit finished what I used several others to try.I got through the concrete, hit rebar and that ended the first bit.It took 3 other bits to get nearly through the rebar and this one finished the job in decent shape.

I was tapping some #6 holes in hot rolled steel and has trouble breaking the tap. I used these drill bits, the next size larger than the specified drill size, to drill the holes before tapping. The bits worked well and I was able to tap the holes without breaking the tap.
