I had not seen this concept before, I use this for boat upholstery, needing to drill a hole and then chamfer it, before screwing a snap stud into the hole (the button part of your boar top that stays on your boat) Formerly you had to drill the hole, chamfer and then drive the fastener, three steps. This allows no bit changes. Its brilliant and saves so much time.

This tool does what it says it’ll do but it misses the mark on too many points for me to recommend it. I was looking for a replacement for the drill & drive unit that I used for many years until I broke the drill bit in it and couldn’t get it out. So I bought the DeWalt…and was disappointed. My old unit was far superior to DeWalt’s. (Check out the picture.) First of all, the DeWalt is bulky. It’s outside diameter is 7/8″ thick while my old guy is a slim 5/8″ OD. That’s important when you’re working in a tight spot. Secondly, the release mechanism is spring loaded on the DeWalt which makes it difficult for one handed operation. Remember, one hand is holding the drill, so you only have one left to pull back the chuck and hold it there while you pull out the bit. Those are opposite directions. With one hand?!! That’s tough to do. My old unit was not spring loaded. You pulled the sleeve forward and it stayed there in the unlock position. With the same motion you pulled out the bit and flipped it over. You put the bit back in and slid the sleeve back to the lock position. Again, very easy to do with one hand. Thirdly, DeWalt has a separate allen wrench for the set screws which means you have to go find it when you need it. The allen wrench is built in at the bottom of the holder on my old unit. It’s convenient and can’t get lost. Finally, the screwdriver tip is held in by a set screw on the DeWalt. My old unit just used a magnet. That makes it easy to switch from a Phillips bit to a flat head…something that’s necessary when you’re working with older houses where both types of screws are found. Having to unloosen a set screw just to switch screwdriver bits is an aggravation…and that’s even if you can find the allen wrench. So, in the end I can’t recommend this product. It’s a shame because DeWalt design is usually first rate. This flip and drive is certainly not that.

Looks and feels to be of good quality. The only thing I wish it had was the built in allen wrench like the older one I had.

I’ve used these flip drill/drives for years. All of the major cordless drill manufacturers offered a version at one time or another over the last 20 years. Some designs were better than others. Some were more heavy duty commercially/professionally purposed than others. As each successively wore out I went back to HD to buy whatever was the newest, latest, and greatest. And this time was no different. I went into the local HD and looked for the newest model…and I looked…and I looked. They were nowhere to be found. Looked DeWalt, Ryobi, Milwaukee and the rest of the tool isles. Nothing, no where to be found. Went to my HD tool guy “Ed” and asked “what gives”. He told me “we only offer them online now.” Had to have a new one as this device is responsible for most of my speed on any drive/drive job. So I went home, went online on the HD site, found these, and ordered two for pickup at the store. And I have to tell you, this item is super. Everything that was weak or dysfunctional in previous designs was corrected. These things are beefy with a heavy duty shaft and heavy duty quick snap ring that securely locks and quickly releases the drill/drive flip. So important, as the last Ryobis I purchased were spring-loaded and the drill/drive flip used to pull out of the device when drilling and backing out the drill bit. I am going to order more to have them around in case they disappear again. The only complaint I have is why are they not available in the store. Why only online????

Great design and very easy to use. One word of caution, the flipable chuck both short and long 1/4″ bits, but if you put a short bit on the long end, it will be hard to remove due to the magnet.

Solid construction and fast drill/drive transition. Does the job well.

I was very disappointed the drive end that goes into the drill is too large to fit into a regular impact drill. It looks pretty close, but is actually too large. Works fine in a regular drill chuck, but I wanted to use it with my hammer/impact drill, which works much better in tough or hard wood. If I had known it would not work in my impact drill, I would not have purchased it. Home Depot used to have a small kit that had just about everything in it all contained in a plastic container, but they just don’t sell it anymore.

Been using there for years by far the best countersink drill combo set out there. Installing custom closets.
