I mounted a DeWalt wheel on to my angle grinder and made a sample cut on a square tube of aluminum, I know the wheel indicates metal/stainless but I assumed metal also included aluminum. I compared finish from a cutting form an old wheel which was also intended for metal. The old wheel is 1/64th thicker than the DeWalt wheel. The DeWalt wheel cut through the aluminum effortlessly but the finish was very similar to old wheel. It is possible that the finish may be due to my cheap grinder vibration. I have not tried to compare stainless cutting results, a future project. See attached photos

The .045 metal cutting wheel has been my “go to” cutting wheel for many years now. The thin kerf makes for a much faster and cleaner cut than the .125 wheels with much less effort and heating of the metal. The Dewalt .045 cutting wheel is a top quality cutting wheel that nicely cuts through steel, stainless steel and even tough alloys like tool steel.

I used it to cut tree roots overgrowing on my lawn, making it hard to mow.Battery life – I only get 30-45min depending on how often I recharge. It takes a couple of hours to charge. That means long wait periods and short work periods. I wish I purchased a corded unit. I am very disappointed!Blades – I bought DeWalt’s blades. Using the wood blades made the job easier. Vibrations – given the battery weakness, I had to use the unit daily at lunch break and after work. After 1 week, the vibrations are tough on your wrists, despite using gloves.Recommendation – best for jobs which take 45minutes or less.

I decided to finish off my unfinished lower level. As a part of that project I installed galvanized panels onto portions of the walls, ceiling, and bar front. I used the DEWALT 4-1/2 IN. X 0.045 IN. X 7/8 IN. METAL AND STAINLESS CUTTING WHEELS to cut the panels to the appropriate dimensions and to cut the necessary holes for outlets etc. I found the wheels to do an excellent job cutting both the long runs and the smaller, more intricate work. They lasted well and produced less spark than expected. I am happy!
