Description
The DEWALT DW618D Router is designed with a 2-1/4 HP (maximum motor HP), 12.0 Amp electronic variable speed motor that provides the power to rout smoothly through the toughest hardwoods. This router features electronic variable speed with full feedback control for constant speed under load from 8,000-24,000 rpm and soft start to reduce start-up torque for enhanced control. A micro-fine depth adjustment ring provides precise depth adjustments in 1/64 in. increments and adjusts vertically for a constant switch/cord set location.

- Adjustable, tool-free steel motor cam lock makes depth adjustment and base changes quick and solid-locking

I was on the fence for a while about “taking the plunge ” ( sorry, couldn’t resist) to buy a plunge router but I couldn’t be happier that I did. This thing is a wood hungry monster. It has tackled everything I have thrown at it so far . Fluid plunge is an understatement as it plunges effortlessly. There may be better or stronger on the market but I don’t need to find out because this one suits my needs to a T.

I am a loyal DeWalt user. Very reliable tools in general, so this is the first one that I have had to repair. I cross threaded the collet nut, rookie move. You would think that, since we have all made that gaf once or twice, the collet taper would be easily replaceable. It is integral to with the rotor. You have to replace the entire motor armature. This means that to replace the most easily damaged part you have to replace the most expensive part.Outside of this frustration, I love the router. It is smooth and powerful, lots of features.

I had seen Norm in The New Yankee Workshop brag about how well a D-HANDLE router was much easer to control. After using this one I can really appreciate the extra control you have. I have three other routers that I use but this will my first choose when I need to use one.

I love this router. Its insanely easy to adjust the depth of cut. It has the soft start and break stop. The plug detaches for easy storage. Ive used alot of routers and nothing comes close. I have three of them. One for my router table, one in my shop, and one in my tool bag
