I have only used this tool about 15 times so far. The planer works very well. Light weight easy to handle. Easy to adjust cutting depth. The down side are it did not come with a dust port connection, which I ordered. The shipping cost was almost as much as the port. When I used the planner with the dust port, it was hard to find a suitable connection hose to either of my wet/dry vacs. I ended up duct taping the hose to it. The port and hose was some what in the way, therefore it hampered the operation making it hard to get the wood leveled. While cutting the wood the port came off several times. It has a way to connect a portable fence, but that too did not come with the planner. It would help if these two accessories were included. This is the only planer I have so I don’t have anything to compare it with. I would say if Ridgid had a planer, I would have greatly considered buying it from them due to the life time warranty vs Dewalt’s three year.

I wasn’t sure if this was something that I needed, but it has been pretty handy. I only regret not finding the tool with a case. I didnt have that option when I bought this hand planer.

As a DIYer I purchased this planner to use on smaller projects until such time I am able to purchase a table top full planer. That purchase will also be Dewalt! For several years I worked for a construction supply company and there is where I saw the durability of Dewalt tools Having never used a hand planer I found the directions and use to be very easy. Looking forward to using this planer on several current and future projects.

Absolute beginner and I was able to figure it out and use it to make custom transition pieces from our slightly raised tiled kitchen to the hardwood in the rest of the house. I will be finding other applications for it!!

The planner has performed well thus far. Easy and comfortable to handle. Some issues that I am working out is the edge groove it is leaving on the right hand side of the cut. The other items that you will need to address is the dust exhaust nozzle. I have had to duct tape and clamp a 1-1/2 dust hose from my vacuum to the dust port on the planner. Odd shape on the planners dust port (not round), make it difficult making this attachment. If only DeWalt would make this round or throw in an attachment that a round tube could attach to. The second issue is that the planner depth adjustor does not click in at 1/32″ increments like what I experienced in the store with the 5amp planner. Why not?

I bought the planer to smooth down 6×6 post that are rough sawed. Large area of planing but it does get the job done. Only have used for a short while so the review is limited in time usage. At this point the review would have gotten a 5 STAR, but I don’t understand why DeWALT leaves out the dust collector attachment. Inside/Outside, it needs the dust collection. I don’t see where most of my jobs are going to be minimal dust producing, So, DeWALT gets a 1 STAR shame on you deduction. Come on DeWALT!! Now I had to rig an attachement that just does suffice until I can find that attachment.

Worked great for my project (getting some oak studs in a very old house into plane for drywall). No real negatives. Pretty easy to learn to use. I’ll be glad it’s in my tool cabinet from now on!

I have not used it a ton yet, but it seems to work very well and is relatively easy to handle. It can remove a lot of material in a hurry and it seems to have plenty of power to keep it from bogging down.

Just got it and one of the handiest hand machines I have.

works well, good power, best tool of it’s type for the money. only negative comment is the ‘fence’ being located so far forward and being too short to keep the blade/heel of the plane perpendicular to your work piece… but typical of a smaller handplanes. great price through HD… almost 30% less than other tool suppliers in my area.

This is a heavy duty, well-built planer that is balanced and easy to use. Depth adjustments are accurate and easy to make. Very nice product.

there are no accessories, ie chip collector or diverter. If you have to use it horizontally you better have a face shield.

The planer was ready out of the case to use. I purchased this tool to plane floor joists in my master bedroom. I replaced a 2×8 with a 2×10 and needed to trim some off the top. the planer was a gigantic help, it was very easy to adjust the cutting depth and cuts very smooth.

Lacks the weight I prefer so that I can feel good tool balance when it rests of the surface, but otherwise a good product that chews as happily through hard jatoba planks as it does soft pine 2×4.

I rehab houses that are often 100 plus years old. A common problem, when these older houses begin to sag, is that the doors no longer sit in the jambs properly. The proper way to correct this is to jack up the house and install support columns so everything is plumb and level but in some cases this is just not feasible. A quick fix is to plane a little off the offending door edges. For years I used a cheapy Black & Decker power plane but it’s time to retire it. This DeWalt plane is quite a bit heavier but it really eats wood.Be sure to inspect the surface for nails, screws and staples which will quickly destroy your blades. Very nice product.

I’m a professional carpenter and I don’t use this tool every single day so I couldn’t justify the little extra const of cordless but when i do need this it’s invaluable. I used it today to level out some cabinets prepping for a countertop that needs to be perfecly flat. I use it to bevel custom threshold. It’s the tool that always gets me out of a bind. Easily adjustable, user friendly. Couldn’t ask for more.
