I am a DIYer, have a 200 year old house with ongoing projects. I bought this saw to replace a Hitachi that needed parts that are no longer available. I hate when that happens; I was very happy with the Hitachi. The DeWalt is a very good, but not great, replacement. Been using it for about one year on my latest project, a bathroom gut and rebuild. It cuts and operates smoothly, is solidly built and does what I need a sliding compound saw to do. I opted for the 10 inch saw because it would deal with 98% of the cuts I make. The extra size and especially the weight of a 12 inch, even though less expensive to buy, was not worth it to me. My biggest gripe is the dust collection, or lack thereof. The saw does a remarkable job of spreading shavings everywhere but into the dust bag, and that ticks me off. As well as it might perform its main function, cutting, I hate having to dust myself off each time. If I had to do it all over again (highly unlikely, as there is no excuse I could come up with for yet another new saw to mollify the wife), I would buy a different saw with a better dust collection system.

I:m giving this saw 5 stars, I did pick up the optional light, and that’s what makes the 5 stars. the light is really nice.. I really love the detent override, one of the easiest to use. and all the detents are really nice too. .Very accurate saw. I have used the bosch a lot and this saw surpasses it. the Makita I never used just read about to make my decision. but to be honest you probably can’t go wrong with any of of those three saws.

Great miter saw for big or small jobs. Adjusts easy, cuts quickly. Only thing needed is a stand

I bought the dw717 compound miter saw this spring and already put some hours in redoing the trim in our home. Easy and safe to use, accurate and consistent cuts. Love it.

I’m still happy I purchased this saw. It is accurate and lighter than the 12 in version. I purchased the saw for all the additional angles it can do. Those are very helpful in the real world here in the Tahoe area where everything is trimmed in stain grade material. However, there is a major flaw with this saw. The Cam for the bevel doesn’t hold the saw in the higher angles. I can make a 45 degree cut with the detent but if i need to make 46 or 47 degree cut the saw won’t hold these angles. Additionally, the saw won’t hold a 30 degree bevel which is what I like to use to splice together 1×6 base on long walls, hence the desire to use the bevel. Can’t cut 1×6 against the fence and double cutting is a joke. I may try adding washers to the cam to increase its strength. Dewalt I need a fix to make the cam lever stronger! As a side note, I was able to purchase the LED for the shadow cut line, however, those are getting hard to find and are now more expensive than they should be. DeWalt you should just add the LED to the saw and add $10-20 to the cost of the saw.

makes accurate clean cuts. we had purchased based on this review in woodworkers’ journal:http://www.woodworkersjournal.com/10-sliding-compound-miter-saws-tested-reviewed/since we have just installed an $8000 dust collection system in our shop. while I agree with the link’s review on quality of cut, etc., we still have significant clean up after use, even with the dust collection system.

After a quick calibration, it’s the most accurate 10″ saw I’ve used. Could use an upgrade on the dust collection chute. Also, the bevel adjustment tightening handle is in an awkward place, especially when you have a vaccuum hose connected. Both minor complaints though.

I reluctantly bought the DWS780, which is an excellent saw but it’s more than I need. I use my miter saw for finish work and the 10” is perfect for me… I love the led light tho… so please put out a shipment of dws717 or 719 or 720 or whatever… just please make some more 10” sliding miter saws available soon. Thank you kindly!

this is an amazing saw, my good friend is in the market for a good mitre saw and I strongly recommend this saw! cuts are smooth and accurate, even with the rough cut blade with comes installed on it. with the sliding action this saw easily cuts through 4x lumber in one pass. angle detents are very handy and all other angles in between are easy to set. very sturdy construction. feels like a tool, not a toy.
