Been using this saw for two years now. Used it to build a 300 square foot cedar deck with aluminum railing. This is a great saw. Square out of the box and easy to use. Its been used to cut lots of 2×4 and other basic cuts for around the house repairs and projects.

I’m giving it 5 stars despite a couple of gripes, but it performs flawlessly as a miter saw.The couple of gripes are:1. Dust collection is very poor. The dust bag just stays empty. Hooking up a shop vac makes a small improvement, but still, there’s a lot of dust all over the place.2. The clamp provided with the saw is useless. Every time I tried to tighten it, the piece of wood would move. I wish DeWalt would provide a toggle clamp to solve this problem.3. Ok, I said a couple, but here’s a third one – the included blade is a throw away for me. Please sell it without the blade and cut the price.Nonetheless, an excellent saw, hence the 5 stars. I’m in the middle of a laminate floor installation, and couldn’t be happier.

Let me start off by saying I am a die hard reviewer and researching when I make a purchase of anything I use for work or a hobby. This saw was certainly no exception. I started off by narrowing my search down to two main saws. This Dewalt DW717 and the Makita LS1016l. I actually had the Makita on its way from Amazon with the Bosch 3800 stand. I canceled that and bought the DW717 with the Dewalt DWX724 miter stand. Now, I was all set on the Makita because I really like the makita tools I had. And I have to admit that if they made a nice miter stand like the Dewalt compact that i ended up with, I would have stuck with it! I am sure the Makita with that great Bosch stand would have been rad but something told me to “stay with the proven saw”. I looked at reviews again after the Makita was already on its way and decided to cancel and get this saw instead. I LOVE the compact stand. Its durable, strong, really sturdy and most importantly it is big enough but small enough to bring with me on the job and perform easily as good as the full size that weighs much more and takes up way too much room. Back to the saw though, it is great! I was a little scared at first because it looked like it had been used or at least bought, repacked, returned and resold! Wouldn’t be the first time HD did that and would certainly not be the last. That being said, i do like HD for the convenience and because I absolutely refuse to deal with that other blue box store that starts with an ‘L”. Anyway, it looked used. I was all ready to take it back but decided to at least try it out and see if it was level and cutting accurate. I immediately assumed it was way off which is why it had been returned. To my ABSOLUTE AMAZEMENT it was NOT! As a matter of fact, it was dead on! I checked it with 3 different Starrett Machinist Squares(which if anyone out there knows are the best quality squares and rules you can buy and especially the older ones like I have). I checked the 90, 45, 22.5, bevel(both ways), and every other angle and straight cut you can think of! Seriously, it was DEAD ON every time. Or at least near perfect! Certainly for any carpentry I can think of and I am very particular about my cuts! So accuracy out of the box was a winner to say the least.Besides the quality of the cuts I also noticed other things i liked. The fence that i had heard so many complaints about also seemed to be dead on and parallel with the bottom fence, base and other side. I mean everything was perfect. Easy to loosen and move and honestly just perfect. I was seriously shocked. This day in age everything seems to have serious QC issues. And any saw I would expect(and honestly so should everyone) to do at least some setting up for accuracy. But not in my case! Every bad thing i read about this saw(and there is NOT much bad to find out there) was not the case with my experience. After checking all of this I was expecting the saw not to work, but it did. Sounds nice and cuts strong. I am sure this is one area the Makita would shine over the Dewalt and I am sure the Makita would have been a fine choice also but I read too many reviews mentioning the same problem with the shaky head and blade wobble. One bad review is normal, but when you see a few bad reviews all siting the same problem, well then there at least has to be a chance of it being a real issue and not just coincidence. Anyway, Its a great saw so far that I would say go ahead and just get if you are on the fence. You can’t go wrong here. The only problem you re gonna find is with a QC issue. If the saw is performing as it should then there is nothing to dislike in my opinion. Its a tad heavy but who cares? I would rather sacrifice weight saving measures for a solid strong saw any day! I really wish I had gotten to see the LS1016l up close to compare but I am not sweating it at this point. The DW717 matched up with the 724X stand is a serious winner to me! That stand is more than capable of handling anything you will throw at it on the job 99% of the time. The same holds true for this saw! This 10 inch miter is capable of everything the 12 inch saw can do except it is lighter, smaller, cheaper and the blades are a lot easier and cheaper to get! WIN WIN! I am not saying you will never need the 12 inch but its not gonna be something you need often enough to buy it. Unless of course the weight and cost are a non issue for you. If you are on the fence about this saw then take my word for it and buy it. And get the compact stand too! You’ll love it! Trust me. I am willing to admit that i am a seriously neurotic researcher and I did the work for you. I am sure the Makita would be great if you got a good one but the Dewalt is a sure bet. The Festool at more than twice the price is your best option out there but who has that money? I wish I had it to tell the truth because it wouldn’t even be a decision. Its by far the best tool out there. One day. For now the Dewalt has reached my standards at this price point.

I am a finish carpenter. Ive used many different saws over last 20 yrs. This is by far the best saw I’ve owned. There’s a couple little things that id change (ease of changing blades, micro adjustment lever for bevel gets in way sometimes) but over all this saw is solid. I ended up buying 3 of them. One for me, my second man and our shop. It is easy to use and reliable. It comes in and out of my truck every day. Sometimes a few times and I haven’t had to mess with any cut adjustments. It’s worth the money Oh, by the way, I trim everyday and have a 12 ” Saw that collects dust. There’s really no need for something that big if you own a 10″ Slider

They saw has so many functions that I have only begun to learn all its tricks. It made the shelves a breeze to make and am looking forward to future projects now.

This saw has sufficient power…. I do enjoy the fact you can extend the barrier that guides the material. The improvements I would recommend would be the reduction in time it takes for the saw to reach full speed, and the material vice that comes with the tool should have a wider anchor point to be more versatile in practical application . Overall I give this saw an 8.2 … However this does not include a longevity grade as I only have had the tool for a month or so.

This saw has a very quality feel to it. Everything is solid the locks don’t jiggle or have slop. The slide is smooth. I was only disappointed when trying to cut a 45 degree miter with the saw leaned right. The motor hits the fence and wouldn’t cut thru a 2×6 completely. I would still recommend it.

I have had this saw for at least 3 years. I have trimmed over 200 homes and this saw hasn’t skipped a beat. One time the blade brake did not activate and I thought I was in trouble but it never happened again. I added the shadow line led cut indicator to it and am amazed every day of how simple this accessory is but also how genius. As another reviewer stated he had problems with the bevel lock when you’re not in a detent setting. I had the same problem but also found the adjustment for it and tightened a little and has never given me a problem since. I have several Dewalt tools and they have never let me down. Keep up the great work Dewalt.Scott G.

Cuts quick and easy. Not as portable as I’d like but not a big deal. A little messy with excess dust. I like the guard because it has slots in it to easily line up cuts. Blade braking is quick, which is more safe because the blade doesn’t spin for a long time after letting go of the trigger. If I could go back in time I would buy this saw again.

For someone who has always had to work with older power tools this saw is a real joy to use. Had reservations about spending that much money. Worth every penny and more.

This saw is awesome. It’s accurate right out of the box. It does more than I needed to I highly recommend this product. I believe it’s the best value for the money and does just as much as a 12 inch for $200 more.

The saw is excellent, however I would give the documentation that comes with it ZERO stars. These people need to take their manual writers back to square one.
