This planer is terrific! Very little assembly required and was basically ready to run out of the box!

If you do any woodworking this man toy is a requirement it works wonderful it’s just easy right out of the box or were no problems with it and it’s not as noisy as I expected but you do or should wear hearing protection and you must have a dust collector

Mostly a good planer. It came perfectly adjusted right out of the box, no need to tweek for accuracy. The thickness setting is accurate and easily achieved. The ability to lock the carriage head essentially eliminates (certinly greatly reduces) planer snipe at board ends. The planer comes with a mostly decorative material removal guage that bounces up and down on an imprecise scale. As far as I can tell, this only serves to tell the user that a rough sawn board is of variable thickness. Presumably, if you need a planer, you already know this, but it does no harm. A very useful feature is the ability to set the ultimate thickness using an absolute stop. This allows for repeated accuracy over multiple uses, producing boards of uniform thickness. The only downside I found was with this planer was it’s maximum depth of cut. My old Tiawanese no-name planer this replaced was built like a 1950’s Chevy and had no problem shaving 1/8″ off a red oak board. This Dewalt struggles with anything over a 1/32″ cut on clear fir regardless of the board width. Perhaps this is a compromise to achieve the very smooth surface the Dewalt produces. While this isn’t a big deal if you’re planing a few boards, it becomes tiresome when shaving down a large stack from a nominal 1″ to an ultimate 3/4″. The chip collection is generally good except when large shavings (greater than 1/32″) are produced. Then, the chips clog the clearance port which requires removing the dust hood. Since this is attached with 3 screws, it can become time consuming. So, for setup, accuracy & smoothness of cut an A+. For chip clearance, a B. For depth of cut a C+. I have yet to replace the knives so I’ve still to decide if I approve of the proprietary disposable knives. This is something that could be good as long as the knives remain available or it could be a venture into planned obsolescence.

If you keep your blades sharp, which is your responsibility, this is an amazing planer. I’ve put thousands of board feet thru without any issues.

I have used and abused this machine for several years now. No complaints at all, except it can be a bit of a task to change the blades once in a while. I try to keep extra screw on hand in case I strip some when changing the blades. Other than that, it’s a great machine.

I’ve made a lot of sawdust with this planer from all kinds of wood species and dimensions and I’m always pleased with the results. I needed portable and affordable and this tool hit the mark. Well done Dewalt.

My husband loves his new planner

This planer is built solid. It definitely has a proud price tag, but it’s totally worth it. I’ve used cheaper ones and they just don’t hold up for very long.
Freida Hamill (verified owner) –
Liked it very much

If you live in Michigan, this planer might not function well in the winter. Even today, when it’s in the 40’s, my planer is struggling to feed. I’ve also experienced plenty of snipe, ripples, and and chipped grain on harder woods. If I weren’t just past the 180 day mark, I’d return it and opt for the 735. As it is, I spend about as much time troubleshooting this tool as I do actually using it.

This planner is absolutely one of the best items I have ever purchased it is excellent at what it does for its small compact size

Had clear instructions, even included the adapter to reduce the dust outlet from 4 in.
