I bought the drill for a home renovation, used it to drill holes for the electrical and plumbing. The handles are very sturdy, and can be removed or adjusted to get into tight places. I could have bought a less expensive drill, and since it is not likely to get a lot of use from me I considered it, but in the end a powerful drill like this can cause serious injury, and it’s worth the extra cost for the bind-up control.

My use is to bore into solids of seasoned wood – first sample seasoned 24″ dia cheshtnut oak so far so good – with a good 3 1/2″ dia. bit. – I secured 8 in. penetration no problem – I had greater difficulty with 5 5/8″ dia. bit – this is mechanically a reality and understandable greater surface area. The variable speed and anti bind function delivered constant mechanical force – transmission solid – I had to lean on the drill – it got hot but the bushings did not smoke – let the drill cool and got back to work – so far so good.

I’m a residential electrician, so very powerful drills are something I’m quite familiar with. I used the DeWalt predecessor to this, the DW124, for drilling out houses for years. In the trades, we’ve all heard the stories of guys getting injured when a large bit jammed, using high-torque drills. DeWalt was the first drill I could find that had a safety feature to avoid such incidents, a clutch, and when I needed a replacement, that was a must-have feature. This drill actually has 2 of those safety features, and I had great luck with the first one, so buying this was a no-brainer.Very happy with this very heavy-duty drill thus far, having had it for about a year. Plenty of torque, and the 2-range variable speed gives it good versatility. Recommended.

It you have a log, marina piling to drill through this is the tool.If you want not to break your risk with the safety this drill has, this is the tool.It has the power, torque and ability for long holes.It is expensive but pays for itself on the first job.Only problem is I may never need it again. But it paid for itself 10 times over vus hiring someone.
