Great Chisel & Sharp! 3/8in chisel helps to make quick work of fine adjustments. Easy to cut wood straight out of the Nifty Included Holder! Use to install a few door knobs & dead bolts. Ended up putting both into my Lock Smithing toolbox! Very comfortable handle & has a much needed metal end cap to use with a mallet or hammer when scoring mortises. Very easy to polish edge for a sharper edge & seems to be a tool that is Quality! Looking to purchase other sizes to complete the set.

OK – So this is not the finest, highest quality 3/8” wood chisel on the market today. Is that what you’re searching for – especially at this price point? Not me – I’m looking for a mid-range quality chisel that feels comfortable in my hand, has a carbon steel blade that can be sharpened to a fine edge that will cut paper thin strips of wood and keep a sharp edge. I’m not a professional woodworker and I doubt that my carpentry skills will ever require a tool that someone like Norm from the TV show would have.My first impression of this tool was that I liked the packaging, with the exception of the plastic bar that swings across and locks the tool in place. It snaps into the bottom groove tightly enough that it’s not coming out, so I’m going to cut off the plastic bar and use the holder/blade protector. The handle has a metal top for tapping with a hammer or mallet and the plastic and rubber handle is very comfortable to hold. There are grooves on the bottom of the handle that prevent slipping and a nice indentation on both sides for your thumb to apply pressure.The blade is constructed from carbon steel. However, there are many grades of this carbon steel. The description doesn’t say “high-carbon steel” (the best) and also doesn’t provide a hardness number that will give an indication of how long the blade will maintain a sharp edge. Speaking of sharp edges, the blade on this chisel did cut soft pine but still needs sharpening to get the razor-like edge I want on my wood-working tools. For the price, I think it’s a good tool and DEWALT hit their target audience – as usual.

This is the first time I’ve bought one of the Dewalt chisels and it didn’t disappoint. This Dewalt chisel is sharp and doesn’t take hardly any pressure to accomplish its task, but still remains light enough for ease of use. I ended up buying a second one in a different size and they work just as they should. Love the Dewalt tools!

This 3/8 Dewalt wood chisel is a super nice addition to my collection and will likely be the last 3/8 inch chisel I’ll ever need. The chisel is super sharp so it makes a nice clean cut and is very precise. The blade is carbon steel so I suspect it will stay sharp for years and years. The chisel also comes with a protective cover that duals as a hanger that can be hung on a hook or peg board in your garage. The handle is a hard plastic that gives a superior grip.

Needed a 3/8 chisel during a job and my only 3/8 chisel broke at the handle. Not having a spare handle, I went looking for a quick replacement and the only one I could find In this small town was at home depo. Kept its edge through some 26 mortises after I sharpened it. Took longer to get the inconsistencies out while flattening the back than it took to sharpen sufficiently. I’ll keep it in my tool box for a spare.

This looks and feels like a quality tool you’d expect from DeWalt. The handle is classically colored (yellow & black) like all DeWalt tools, and it’s made from a rubber & hard plastic material with an ergonomically designed handle that makes it easy to hold while striking The strike plate is made of a thick heavy-duty metal and is one inch in diameter. The blade on this piece is 3/8 of an inch wide and 4.75 inches long. Overall tool length is 9 & 5/8 inches. The blade has a straight edge that is very sharp. The blade is made of Carbon Tempered Steel with a lacquered coating, the latter of which is applied to protect the metal from corrosion. The plastic packaging that comes with the tool is handy too. Instead of tossing it away, it can be retained to protect the chisel if you’re like me and store your chisels loosely in a tool box drawer. You can even retain the plastic hook and hang the chisel from a wall mounted peg.

Out of the packaging you can shave with this chisel. Extremely sharp and comfortable to use. I love the Dewalt line and can’t get enough of them. This 3/8-inch chisel is made from carbon steel and resists corrosion. Mind you I am simple a novice wood worker which I do now for pleasure that I am retired, not for work or profit. Just fun and I am enjoying myself a lot with these fine tools. I am completely satisfied with this 3/8-inch wood chisel and recommend it to anyone with similar needs of a fine quality tool.
