The Dewalt wood chisel moderately priced. Not the cheapest but a good buy based on on its performance of using it 2 days cuttings door hinges and still remaining sharp.

This is a high quality wood chisel with lots of features. First and foremost it cuts wood very well. I have nt had to sharpen it yet but the quality of the steel seems very good because it has held its edge while working with hardwoods. One feature I really like is the cushioned handle. It softens the blows to your hand while the full force of the strike is transmitted to the tip. There are couple of flat spots on each side that help you hold it is the positron and at the angle you want. The 1 1/2″ width is perfect for cleaning up large areas such as hinge mortises.

Really nice chisel. I am in the process of remodeling our home office and I needed to add a doorway and door. So that meant all of the mortises had to be cut. I used this and I got a quick lesson in the benefit of using good quality chisels. I have had cheap chisels for years and have always thought I was the reason the projects were never perfect, happy to say it wasn’t me! The DeWalt chisel has a nice rubberized grip which immediately means you have better control over your work. These chisels are sharp, nicely squared, with a good balance, and metal striking plate. It helped me make my projects much more acceptable. The plastic hanger sheath has a snap and release closer so you can keep your chisel sharp and safe in a toolbox, or use the hanger to hang it on a pegboard.

The wood chisel is 1-1/2” wide. It is quite sharp and cuts through wood like a hot knife cuts through butter. With proper filing I should be able to keep it sharp for a long time. It is a great tool for wood working. It is fine for the average DIY woodworker. I always have projects around the house such as chisel out a door jam, or making some fine adjustments to my wood working projects. It was sharp coming out of the box; I kept the plastic cover so that when it’s in my work bench drawer it doesn’t get dinged up. I like that the bi-material handle is comfortable to handle and that the steel strike cap is ideal for striking and driving the chisel blade with a mallet or hammer. The carbon steel blade is tempered and hardened to ensure a long-lasting edge, and lacquered to protect against corrosion.

Nicely made chisel, sharp out of the box with protective sleeve. This chisel has a nice weight to it, came with a nicely honed sharp edge and has a strike cap allowing it to be used with a hammer. The blade is coated with lacquer (and oil) so it has some protection from corrosion and the plastic display sleeve doubles as protector. The handle has a nice shape and surface texture which makes it less likely to slip in your hand (unlike some of my other chisels).I can’t yet speak to the durability of the edge or the tool – the web site does say its high carbon tempered steel but they don’t say what grade. It’s also not clear if the tang of the blade goes all the way to the strike cap like some other makes of chisel (I’m guessing not). I don’t feel this is a fine woodworking chisel, but for general construction, door mortising, etc should be great.

At 1-1/2 inches, this wood chisel is definitely on the large side. I came already sharp enough to produce shavings from soft wood with only hand pressure, but I will hone it a little more. It has a large, comfortable grip and even has a thumb relief dimple. It has a metal cap on the end of the handle, so you can use a hammer with it if your project requires that. This is a very good quality tool that I am sure, with a little care, will last me the rest of my life and is one of those tools that I can pass on to my children.
