I got this hammer a couple of weeks ago. It has 3 features that the run of the mill hammer does not have. On the to of the head of the hammer there is a slot wollered out that has a magnet in it to hold a nail. Up past the magnet is a ledge to hold the head of the nail. Nailing up above your head is what this is for. Placing the nail in the slot, the magnet holds it into place and the ledge is to give the head of the nail something to hit against when swinging it overhead. This makes the first swing to allow the nail to be put into place and then you can continue to nail the nail into the bored with the regular head. The other two features are groves to pull finish nails and brads out. Makes it much easier than to pull them out with the regular claw.The handle has a new grip on in and makes it to where your hands do not come as fatigued while using the hammer.

This hammer drives nails better than a 28oz framing hammer and this is only 22oz. I’m a smaller framed guy so this is perfect for me and it never slips out of my hand unlike my old estwing did.

After using this framing nailer for a few weeks I ended up giving away my old one! This 22oz (model DWHT51381) did a terrific job with my framing work and furniture creation (see photos). The hammer feels “hefty” but in a good way. I could swing this hammer a lot longer without fatigue compared to my previous one. And get this – my previous framing hammer was lighter! So I think the overall balance and grip (it’s also one-piece of steel) definitely contributed to the enjoyment of using this! I can see myself using this framing hammer for years to come!

Got this framing hammer the day I went up to Ontario, Canada, to do a quick renovation for our son who just moved into an old 150 year old farm house. Since I knew it is difficult to cross the border with ones own tools, I had the bare minimal. Well anyways this hammer did it all, from framing to ripping down walls, ceilings, lath, etc.. Have only had a short time but is getting lots of use. Like the handle being a little longer fits my hand better. And having the different notches on side gives me an easier way to pull nails or staples. Especially those nails the head breaks off.
