My old craftsman was starting apart so I figured it was about time for a new hammer. I say there deciding for a while because I am a carpenter I use a hammer on a daily basis. The dewalt felt good in the hand and wasn’t too heavy but looked like it would be able to send home nails pretty easy. I now have had it for almost a month and wish I bought it sooner! So far it’s been great.

17 oz of high velocity, high octane, heavy hitting, high carbon steel, hardened to the iron will of your gravel-eating grandad; with a polished face as flat as your foreman’s personality and a straight-grained hickory handle designed for nothing but the toughest blue-collar bear paws – just like yours. Stone-cold forks on the hind-side for when your apprentice misses a nail drive, tacky grip for the wet days when the sun don’t shine but the bills still need paid. No cheap rubber overmoulding to keep your mitts pretty – this unit is built for the mud, sweat, and stone cold reality of the daily grind. This hammer takes no days off; so when you show up ready to make it happen keep this badboy hanging heavy on your hip. Sometimes in life you take the road less travelled – and that’s just fine for poetry night at the coffee house. But when you need to rise and grind another thousand nails to get you to payday, this is the first and last hammer you’re ever gonna need.

Good hammer – needs a magnet nail holder and a better rubber handle grip.

Great hammer for the money. The only thing I didn’t care for is the dipped rubber grip. It wears off very fast and doesn’t need to be there at all.

The grip and durability of the hammer is what I was looking for

This is the second time that I have purchased this hammer the first one was stolen on the job site so apparently someone liked it also… hopefully this is the last time I will have to buy this hammer but if something should happen to it I would definitely get the same one again!

Awesome hammer. Swings harder than my 20oz steel handle. Gets used on residential framing and holds up well. Nice to have a hammer so light that can drive 16’s in just a few swings given the user does their part.

It overall feel heavier than my 21 oz. Dead on

I’m very happy with this hammer. I didn’t want to shell out for a hammer thrice the cost of this one, but I was keen on finding something similar. It’s basically the poor man’s dagger – handle is 18 inches, head weight is low- 17oz, and the balance is excellent. Swing feels fast and controlled. The texturized grip feels kind of like matte plastidip, which comes off if you prefer, but I like it. The head feels clearcoated so it won’t rust as easily. I don’t normally use a smooth face, so I might grind a subtle grid into it if I’m really bending a lot of nails. My only grievance: Of the 6 hammers on the shelf, only one – the one I bought – had a proper grain. The other’s were mostly okay, and probably useable, but I’m not sure I would have bought this hammer otherwise. Maybe I’m just picky with wood handles, but it seems to me if you want to sell wooden handled hammers in an age of titanium and fiberglass, then you should know your clientele enough to make sure the handles are excellent. DeWalt nailed the design; just make sure your grain is going the right way.

Dewalt really got this one right! It is VERY hard to find a smooth faced, long handled, Hickory hammer….unless you want to buy a Dalluge for $60 bucks. The Dewalt is perfectly balanced, great grip, very accurate and bargain priced. This one stays in the bag!

I have been looking for a smooth faced, lightweight, long handled hammer for some time. Most hammers in this style have a milled face that chew up the wood, be it framing or finish which is unnecessary but is the predominant style for longer handled hammers.Hammer has good balance and seems durable enough but time will tell. The black grip spray has been fine and adds to tactile sense of where you are gripping the hammer on the handle.Blunt face and straight rippers have worked fine. I typically use a cat’s paw/prybar to pull nails to preserve the wood handle.
